The Payroll Processing Analyst is responsible for reviewing a high volume of transactions in an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application. Analyze and/or balance output of those transactions resulting in accurate financial reporting and sound internal controls ensuring data integrity. Willingness to take calculated risks and seek increased responsibilities. Ability to use findings from one transaction to search and identify all other like transactions and apply appropriate corrective actions. Recognize and correct differences among business unit processes.

Education And/or Work Experience Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, human resources, or a related field
  • Experience: 2 years of payroll experience
  • Skills: Knowledge of applicable payroll laws and regulations

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Must be capable of working on items of a moderately complex nature.
  • Thorough knowledge of personal computers, ERP or accounting applications, and complex spreadsheet functions.
  • Demonstrated customer focus and excellent team interaction skills.
  • Must be able to recognize changing priorities and shift work focus appropriately.
  • Must have an independent thought process and work with minimal day-to-day direction.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability including:
    • Thorough root cause investigation
    • Identifying the best of all possible solutions
    • Communicating and training the identified solution
    • Translating the identified problem and solution to other comparable instances
Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications: FPC/CPP certification is a plus.

Job Responsibilities

  • Focus on service quality and deadlines.
  • Manage workload so that priority is given each day to the most essential work.
  • Analyze data, balance transactions, review input for accuracy.
  • Understand implications and ensure appropriate coding of transactions in different tax jurisdictions.
  • Execute routine reports and respond to non-routine data requests.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Actively establish, maintain and strengthen the relationship with business unit customers. Present yourself as a person who can provide answers.
  • May train or support Payroll Specialists.
  • Comply with data integrity, confidentiality and security requirements.
  • Support shared services management’s strategy, leadership, initiatives and culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Payroll Processing

  • Verify file maintenance transaction input daily.
  • Balance hours and dollars submitted through time entry to hours and dollars paid.
  • Payroll gross to net calculation, including validation of:
    • Wage attachments
    • Changes in deductions and benefits
    • Changes in work state or resident state for tax purposes
  • Submit direct deposit files, print checks and post payroll reports.
  • Generate payroll related general ledger entries and validate a subset of those entries.
  • Payroll processes required fund transactions not resulting in net pay (e.g. profit sharing).
  • Performs other tasks and special projects assigned.
