As a SUE Field Technician II, you will support the Utah team by collecting field data, and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

If you have experience in excavation, 811 locating, or related work, this role offers hands-on utility experience while building toward more advanced responsibilities.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?

  • Obtains and maintains all required safety certifications
  • Communicate with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to the project
  • Manage time effectively, organize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously to meet project deadlines and client needs
  • Designate (locate) existing utilities using electromagnetic and geophysical technologies
  • Operate Vacuum truck
  • Accurately and efficiently collect field data
  • Coordinate with supervisor to ensure client-specific demands are being met both in the office and in the field
  • Read and interpret utility records, as-built and survey drawings, and highway design plans
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to help accomplish the company’s strategic goals
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds, walk for extended periods, and work in all weather conditions, be willing to work evenings/weekends when required, and be willing to travel for overnight and extended stay projects as required


Qualifications, Skills, And Competencies

  • 2-4 years’ SUE Tech experience, or 3-7 years providing utility designating/locating services
  • Excavating around buried utilities a plus
  • Land surveying a plus
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Additional schooling or training is a plus
  • Solid work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a team-player attitude
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Must be able to quickly grasp new technologies
  • Able to occasionally travel out of town and work overtime
  • Should be able to walk long distances of several miles daily
  • Good driving skills and a clean driving record
  • Able to work in teams and get along with coworkers
  • Outdoor work in all climates
  • Work with clients in a professional manner
  • Thorough understanding of ASCE 38 guidelines and associated quality levels is a plus
  • Strong computer and technical skills; Auto CAD, MicroStation, or similar application is a plus
  • Perform basic math and measurement
  • Assist with additional projects as assigned
  • Obtain DOT medical card
  • Work with clients in a professional manner
  • Thorough understanding of ASCE 38 guidelines and associated quality levels is a plus
  • Survey, 811, or Bluestakes experience is a plus
  • Strong computer and technical skills; Auto CAD, MicroStation, or similar application is a plus
  • Perform basic math and measurements
  • Assist with additional projects as assigned
  • Obtain DOT Medical Card
