We are seeking a Network Support Technician with foundational knowledge of network infrastructure and data center operations to join our team as a 1099 independent contractor.

The Network Support Technician provides hands-on support for network infrastructure, including Cisco and Riverbed devices, VLANs, Avaya VOIP systems, and fiber link diagnostics. Key responsibilities include switch port assignments, hardware replacements, IDF room inspections, and technical troubleshooting. Proficiency with tools like SolarWinds, EMC Avamar, and ServiceNow, along with basic Windows, UNIX, and Linux administration, is essential. Experience in SLA environments and server performance monitoring is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assign switch ports to specific VLANs
  • Patch phone ports to switches as needed
  • Basic troubleshooting of Avaya VOIP phones
  • Troubleshoot fiber link issues between switches
  • Visualize errors and communicate with remote technical teams
  • Replace network switch chassis blades
  • Perform periodic (minimum twice weekly) visual checks of IDF rooms for cooling, UPS alarms, and PDU health
  • Assist network and data center admins (internal, customer, vendor) during troubleshooting
  • Operate in SLA-based environments
  • Monitor and report on server performance
  • This position requires the ability to work in a project-based environment requiring flexibility and teamwork. Candidate should be willing to perform other duties as assigned.


Ideal Candidates Must Have The Following Qualifications And Skills

  • Basic knowledge of network devices (Switches, Routers, Wireless Access Points), preferably Cisco and Riverbed
  • Understanding of VLANs
  • Familiarity with Avaya VOIP phone configuration
  • Understanding of fiber link diagnostics
  • Familiarity with Data Center Infrastructure Management applications
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds)
  • Basic networking and operating system knowledge
  • Knowledge of hardware (Servers, Storage devices)
  • Ability to interpret monitoring tool outcomes
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools, preferably ServiceNow
  • Knowledge of backup technologies, preferably EMC Avamar and Data Domain
  • Basic knowledge of Windows 2003 Server (Enterprise/Standard), UNIX, and Linux
  • Understanding of Windows 2003 Active Directory, MS Exchange 2003, and File/Print Server
  • Familiarity with Control-M
  • Candidate should have minimum 3-5 year experience in above mentioned area
