Youth Counselor

Crossover

  • On-site position at Alpha School's Brownsville, TX campus
  • $100,000 annual W2 salary with weekly pay. Health benefits begin day one.
  • Relocation assistance available for candidates committing to a full school year on campus

You've built your career around coaching young people — not instructing them. You understand the distinction: coaching means connecting, pushing boundaries, and refusing to accept anything less than a student's full potential. Instruction is about delivering information. You've never seen yourself as an information delivery mechanism.

Alpha operates one of the most unconventional educational models you'll encounter. Students don't sit in traditional rows listening to lectures. They progress through AI-driven learning applications individually, moving at their own speed. AI manages the academic instruction. Your responsibility is facilitating life skills workshops that capture the attention of K-8 learners, leading motivation sessions that drive them toward weekly learning targets, and maintaining standards when students attempt to take the easy path. The academic component runs itself. You manage the human element.

This position offers a meaningful growth trajectory, and that trajectory is defined by deeper student impact. Educators who consistently achieve their metrics (100% cohort completion of weekly app targets, satisfaction scores above 90%) advance into Lead Guide positions where they train other educators to excel in this work. Students remain the focus.

The campus location is Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If your motivation for leaving your current position is the mission — transforming what a child believes is possible for themselves — rather than adding a line to your CV, submit your application.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating hour-long life skills workshops for K-8 students on topics including public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange
  • Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify genuine skill acquisition, not passive attendance
  • Leading daily motivation sessions informed by student profiles, personal interests, and Coachbot analytics to achieve 100% cohort completion of weekly app progression goals
  • Leveraging storytelling techniques, incentive structures (campus currency, leaderboards), and individual relationships to overcome student reluctance
  • Monitoring cohort satisfaction metrics with a target of 90%+ on student feedback surveys

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Delivering lectures from the front of a classroom. Academic progression happens through self-directed AI-powered applications, not through direct instruction from you.
  • Providing passive supervision. While students work on computers, your role demands active engagement.
  • Compromising standards when students resist. Test2Pass requirements remain consistent, even during challenging weeks for individual students.
  • Creating curriculum materials from the ground up. Lesson frameworks and workshop guides are supplied; your responsibility is executing them with the presence and narrative skill that ensures genuine student comprehension.
  • Handling parent communication, admissions processes, or campus operational tasks. Those functions belong to different positions.
