Full-Time | $55.50–$69.35/hour

About the Role

The Oakland Housing Authority Police Department is seeking experienced Lateral Police Officers. Officers are responsible for protecting life and property, enforcing laws, and serving OHA communities. OHA Police is POST-certified and CALEA-accredited.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol OHA properties by foot and vehicle
  • Enforce California Penal & Vehicle Codes
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls
  • Investigate crimes and suspicious activity
  • Prepare reports and legal documentation
  • Engage with residents and support community policing efforts
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies
  • Participate in specialized assignments (K9, investigations, task forces)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum age: 20.5 years
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Current sworn officer OR possession of a POST Basic Certificate
  • Out-of-state candidates must obtain POST Basic Course Waiver
  • No felony convictions
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts

Preferred: Bilingual (ASL, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese)

Skills & Requirements

  • Knowledge of CA Penal & Vehicle Codes and legal procedures
  • Strong report writing and communication skills
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations
  • Proficient and safe use of firearms
  • Ability to build community relationships and work independently

Physical Requirements

Must pass POST physical ability test:

  • Obstacle course
  • 165 lb body drag
  • 6-ft fence climb
  • 500-yard run
