About Narragansett Boat Club
Founded in 1838, Narragansett Boat Club (NBC) is the oldest continuously operating rowing club in North America. We are a club open to all who would like to learn and practice rowing, regardless of background.
NBC is a vibrant, growing organization offering robust adult and youth programs in sculling and sweep rowing with top level results in international, national, and regional events. We maintain a comprehensive instructional program and a ranked proficiency system that brings new rowers from beginner to confident, capable athletes.
NBC hosts a major regional regatta annually and several club based intramural races throughout the year.
Position Overview
The Executive Director (ED) is a part-time, hands-on leadership position with broad involvement in fund raising and day to day oversight responsibilities for the smooth running of the club and its programs.
Reports to: President and Board of Governors
Collaborates with: Treasurer, Captain, Building Committee, NBC Coaching Staff
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Work with the BOG and our coaching staff to further funding of the club and programs through donor engagement, grant opportunities, and fund-raising events.
- Work with the Treasurer to develop and track the annual budgets for the facility, fleet maintenance, and various club programs including coaching programs for adult and youth athletes.
- Work with the Captain to ensure that the fleet, the launches, and the docks are safe and in good condition.
- Work with the Building Committee to oversee a safe, clean, and neat facility.
- Work with the Coaches to assist with scheduling, boat usage for in-house and away boat use for daily and special regatta use.
- Coordinate volunteer appeals for work parties, fund raising, and other events.
Qualifications
Required
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and team-oriented culture.
- Proven ability to raise funds for club projects up to and including large building projects.
- Strong communication skills [verbal and written] to further fund-raising efforts.
- Ability to create and maintain interpersonal relationships in a professional manner.
- Demonstrated managerial and operational skills within an athletic, recreational non-profit organization for adult and youth constituencies.
- Ability to create and manage budgets and track expenses.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage priorities of potentially conflicting requirements.
- SafeSport training will be required upon selection.
Preferred
- Experience working in a membership based, volunteer driven organization.
- Knowledge of fleet maintenance, rowing equipment, and boathouse operations.
- CPR/First Aid, SafeSport, and other US Rowing certifications.
Work Environment and Schedule
- This position requires a regular on-site presence at the boathouse during the active rowing season including early mornings, some weekends and occasional evenings depending on program needs. Remote work during off hours [midday or beginning and end of season].
- Seasonal rhythms vary allowing for changes in schedule
Compensation
Competitive salary compensation commensurate with experience. Total Compensation will be discussed with the candidate
