Children’s Ministry Director

Status: Part time, 30 hours per week

Who We Are: Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (POP) is an ELCA congregation of 5,600 members located in the southern Twin Cities suburb of Burnsville, MN. At our core we seek to see the Gospel transform lives. We do this through providing robust mission opportunities through our onsite food shelf and dental clinic, providing thought provoking sermon series, traditional and contemporary worship geared for excellence, and learning and personal growth opportunities for all ages.

Job Summary: The Children’s Ministry Director is responsible for supporting elementary aged students and their families as they grow closer to God, each other, and their community. The Children’s Ministry Director will create, lead, and oversee programs that provide opportunities for faithful learning, serving, and leading.

Essential Functions

· Work with Family Ministry team to offer faithful educational opportunities to elementary aged children, including overseeing the implementation of the chosen curriculum ; key days are Sundays and Wednesdays

· Recruit, train, and support large and small group leaders and volunteers

· Work with Family Ministry and other staff as needed to plan and coordinate special ministry events and camps, these events will generally occur on days other than Sundays and Wednesdays

· Work with the Children’s Music Director to create, lead, organize and oversee summer camps at POP including Vacation Bible School and Worship Arts Camp, and others as they may arise

· Work with Family Ministry to select and provide camp opportunities in partnership with relevant denominational and parachurch ministries (Camp Wapo)

· Communicate Family Ministry opportunities with families, church, and community in coordination with the Communications Team

· Integrate Children’s Ministry when appropriate with service opportunities and other ministry areas at POP

· Reach out to PreK students and families through collaboration with POP Childcare and CDLC

· Attend staff meetings, staff chapel, staff retreats, and other continuing education opportunities as possible

· Commitment to growing in personal faith and exhibiting this commitment in faithful life choices

· A working knowledge of the educational needs of elementary aged children

· The ability to oversee multiple volunteers at one time

· Demonstrated ability to identify and administer processes and procedures for the safety of children

· Ability to work on a team collaboratively

Education/Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or a college degree in Christian Education, or related field

· Several years of experience leading a children’s ministry program

· Demonstrated ability to effectively motivate and recruit volunteers
