The Associate Buyer has the responsibility of ensuring material availability to support the production schedule. Other responsibilities include interacting/coordinating with internal purchase requests and sourcing within the quality, lead times and costs supportive of company objectives. The Associate Buyer also assists and interacts with suppliers on a variety of topics, and supports other business functions as required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Place purchase orders with suppliers for materials and supplies as required
  • Assist with internal purchase requests of items requested through the purchasing inbox
  • Monitor status of open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery of all materials, including timely resolution, communication and mitigation of future potential problems
  • Expedite or defer orders as required based on schedule/inventory changes
  • Manage supply chain for quality per specified requirements on drawings, purchase order instructions, other documented requirements, delivery within the specified and required lead times, and at the costs supportive of company objectives
  • Integrate with new product development initiatives to leverage suppliers, components with existing products to new products considering specified requirements, quality, on-time deliveries, and costs
  • Assist with the inter-company flow of materials between warehouse locations
  • Assist and resolve issues regarding PO to invoice discrepancies, returns and quality problems with suppliers
  • Provide back-up support for supply chain functions including shipping, receiving, material handling and other duties as assigned
  • Collaborate with internal customers and provide a high level of customer service, including recommending solutions, resources, and alternative supply options
  • Ensure and provide compliance to Company Quality System and procurement policies and procedures

Education, Experience And Key Attributes

  • Associates Degree (recommended)
  • 1-2 years of purchasing experience in medical or other regulated industry (recommended)
  • Experience with ERP, preferably Epicor
  • Experience with MRP, transportation, supply chain, inventory management and warehousing disciplines
  • Proficient with MS Office – advanced skills with MS Excel
  • Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Excellent organization, communication and follow-up skills
  • Able to influence others and manage conflict
  • Extremely high standards of excellence
  • Analytical with a methodical approach to problem solving
