Marketing Coordinator

Downtown Durham, Inc. is seeking a creative, organized, and mission-driven Marketing Coordinator to support the implementation of the organization’s marketing and communications strategies, focused around the Downtown Durham Blueprint: 2035.
The Marketing Coordinator has strong writing, digital communications, and social media skills and is excited about storytelling, community engagement and promoting downtown Durham.
The Marketing Coordinator will create and distribute content across multiple platforms, support marketing campaigns and events, manage website and social media updates and help track performance metrics to measure communication effectiveness. The successful candidate is collaborative, adaptable, detail-oriented and comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required. This position is full-time hybrid (4 days in person) and reports to the Director of Marketing & Communication. Some evening and weekend work is required for events and community engagement activities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing & Communications
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing & Communication to implement annual marketing and communications strategies.
- Create and edit engaging content for digital and print platforms, including newsletters, brochures, presentations, press releases, annual reports, email campaigns, advertisements and social media.
- Assist with short-form video production, photography and visual storytelling initiatives.
- Ensure all communications align with DDI brand standards, voice and organizational mission.
Website & Digital Content Management
- Manage and maintain the DDI website using WordPress, ensuring content is timely, accurate, visually engaging and user-friendly.
- Coordinate website updates across departments and recommend improvements to site functionality and content strategy.
- Monitor website performance and analytics and provide regular reporting insights.
Social Media & Community Engagement
- Manage the social media content calendar and publish consistent, high-quality content across platforms.
- Support the planning and execution of social media campaigns that increase engagement and position DDI as a leading source of information about downtown Durham.
- Monitor social media trends, engagement metrics and campaign performance.
- Assist with live event coverage and community storytelling during evenings and weekends as needed.
Administrative Support
- Maintain media contact lists and organize press coverage archives.
- Coordinate with external vendors, printers, designers, photographers and media partners as needed.
- Support marketing logistics and communications for special events, stakeholder meetings and civic engagement activities.
- Represent DDI professionally at community meetings and public events.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, public relations, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write for multiple audiences and platforms.
- Experience managing social media platforms and creating engaging digital content.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Demonstrated initiative, creativity, adaptability, and attention to detail.
- Alignment with DDI’s mission and enthusiasm for downtown Durham and community development
- Photography and/or video editing experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms and analytics tools is preferred.
- Familiarity with Creative Cloud, Meta ad tools and Google Analytics is preferred.
COMPENSATION: $52,000 - 56,000
