Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead and deliver mechanical systems projects across commercial and industrial construction environments. The successful candidate will manage the planning, execution, budgeting, and commissioning of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems, ensuring projects meet scope, schedule, quality, safety and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, proven project management experience, and excellent stakeholder and subcontractor coordination skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead project planning and execution for mechanical scopes including HVAC, piping, and plumbing from design through commissioning and closeout.
- Develop, manage and monitor project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
- Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, general contractors and subcontractors to align scope, resolve technical issues, and maintain project milestones.
- Review mechanical drawings, submittals and shop drawings; ensure constructability and compliance with specifications and codes.
- Oversee procurement of equipment and materials, manage vendor relationships, and track delivery schedules.
- Perform site supervision and regular progress inspections to ensure work quality, safety compliance and adherence to project plans.
- Manage change orders, claims and contract modifications; assess impacts and communicate with stakeholders.
- Implement project risk management practices and proactively identify and mitigate issues that could impact cost, schedule or quality.
- Lead commissioning, start-up and testing of mechanical systems to verify performance and hand over required documentation to the client.
- Maintain project documentation, including daily reports, RFIs, O&M manuals, as-built drawings and final closeout packages; mentor junior staff and field personnel.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical project management experience in commercial and/or industrial construction, with demonstrable experience on HVAC, piping and plumbing projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical piping, plumbing systems, pumps, air handling units and related equipment.
- Familiarity with building codes and standards such as ASHRAE, IMC, NFPA and local plumbing and mechanical codes.
- Proficient with construction drawings, Revit/BIM workflows and CAD software; experience with MS Project or similar scheduling tools.
- Proven experience managing budgets, schedules, contracts and subcontractors; PMP or similar certification is a plus.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices; OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.
- Excellent communication, leadership and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, design teams and field staff.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Valid drivers license and willingness to travel regularly to project sites; ability to work in the field and office as required.
