About

As a Deputy Public Guardian, you will work with officials across many of Oregon's state agencies, counties, and local programs while providing professional services. You will serve as a statutorily authorized, court-appointed public guardian for adults who have been judicially determined incapable of making decisions about their person, personal and/or financial affairs and are at significant risk for abuse, neglect, or self-neglect. This essential work includes:

  • Direct provision of ongoing guardianship services to OPGC clients.
  • Investigate the need for guardianship.
  • Preparation of petitions and motions.
  • Provide guidance and recommendation on any necessary course of action.
  • Testify in proceedings.
  • Develop, coordinate, and refine public guardianship services.

We’re a mission-driven agency with three unique programs working together to support Oregonians in need. Our programs include the Long-Term Care Ombudsman, the Oregon Public Guardian, and the Residential Facilities Ombudsman. Together, we work to protect rights, promote independence, and improve the quality of life for people in long-term care, residential facilities, and those with decisional limitations.

  • The Oregon Public Guardian (OPG) program is a statewide service acting as a guardian of last resort for adults with complex needs and no one to support their decision-making. Our goal is to ensure safety, dignity, and a fulfilling life for every person we serve. Through partnerships with local and state organizations, we provide vital guardianship services and work to expand accessible support across Oregon, always striving for the least restrictive options for our clients. Join us in making a difference!
