Basic Qualifications

  • Previous coating application experience using coating applicators / spray gun painting device.
  • Experience following engineering specifications and procedures. Reading and interpreting engineering paint drawings, technical manuals, understanding symbols, and general notes
  • Ability to work any shift and/or weekend as directed by operational requirements
  • Ability to obtain a respirator certification.

This exciting position is with our historic Skunk Works program. Skunk Works is an integral part of Lockheed's Aeronautics business area responsible for advanced systems development including conceptual design and rapid prototyping of clean sheet solutions and improvements and derivatives to existing systems. The ideal Skunk is an agile, multi-faceted teammate who loves to solve our customer's most difficult challenges. Some of our unclassified projects include the U-2, SR-71 Blackbird, F-22 Raptor, F-117 Nighthawk, and the F-35 Lightning II.

This engineering aide position is within the Low Observable (LO) Materials team in Palmdale, California. This position requires the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance; therefore U.S. citizenship is required.

In This Position, You Will

  • Work alongside a team of engineers and technicians in a hands-on environment to fabricate and apply low observable materials.
  • Perform spray applications to aircraft or test fixture parts and assemblies.
  • Manufacture low observable production materials, build batch acceptance coupons and document process.
  • Adhere to lab safety practices, including use of a respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain strict attention to detail including following electronic work instructions and fabrication procedures and completing required data logs and documentation.

Desired Skills

  • Previous experience with environment, health, and safety (ESH) compliance such as working with Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Experience with formulating paints, putties, and other coatings.
  • Aircraft maintenance, or military aircraft painting or aircraft production experience.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, ability to perform and complete tasks alone.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to use HVLP low pressure spray gun use.
