POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Chemist is responsible for the overall management of laboratory, analytical, metallurgical, and process chemistry functions supporting uranium, rare earth element (REE), vanadium, and critical mineral processing operations. This role ensures accurate analytical results, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, environmental stewardship, and operational support for production activities.
The Chief Chemist serves as the subject matter expert for chemical processes, analytical methods, laboratory operations, and process optimization initiatives while leading laboratory personnel and supporting cross-functional operational teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work safely in a heavy-industrial setting
- Work collaboratively with a variety of people including hourly employees, engineers, planners, etc.
- Run a high volume analytical lab with production responsibilities
- Capable of supervising multiple technicians with varying levels of education and experience
- Assure analytical equipment is kept in good working condition.
- Establish and run a satisfactory laboratory quality control/quality assurance (QAQC) program
- Use, evaluate and improve upon existing analytical methods and develop new methods as required.
- Train analytical staff.
- Maintain laboratory chemical inventory.
- Responsible for other tasks as may be determined from time to time by management, consistent with position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
- Bachelor of Science, Chemistry or closely related field (engineering, biology, etc)
- 3-5years of analytical experience.
- Experience with analytical instruments (ICP, ICP-MS, XRF, Spectrophotometer, pH, Conductivity).
- Experience with wet chemistry methods/techniques (Organic separation, Titration, Fusion, and
- Sample Preparation, e.g. Acid Digestion).
- Preferred experience with LIMS and analytical QA/QC programs
- At least3 years experience in an analytical lab. 4 year degree in chemistry or equivelant experience/training.
- Good understanding of lab safety practices.
- Strong chemistry and analytical understanding.
- Able to develop analytical methods for a variety of elements.
PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS
- Lift up to 25 to 50 lbs.
- Be available on call to troubleshoot and support the Lab and Mill for all shifts.
- Other non-typical shifts may be required.
- Computer use and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
- Must be able to mask fit and wear respirator.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather for short periods of time.

Salary Range: $95,000 – $125,000 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, location and internal equity.
Bonus Eligibility: This position may be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus.
