Assistant Foreman

Overview
The Assistant Foreman oversees construction, maintenance and repairs of track; supervising and directing other gang members.
This is a Line of Road position.
0700-1800 Sunday-Wednesday
Starting pay is $27.66/hr. After qualification goes up to full pay at $32.45/hr.
Responsibilities
- Oversees assigned maintenance gang to ensure quality mainten ance and safe work performance.
- Familiarizes employees with established organization procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Assigns and checks work of designated staff.
- Builds, repairs, and maintains track.
- Ensures the safety of employees performing maintenance related activities on FEC property
- Ensures track meets all requirements for FEC and FRA.
- Ensures that employees adhere to all FRA related rules and regulations.
- Undertakes supervision of special projects as assigned.
- Completes and maintains all daily maintenance forms
- Maintains close communication with all operating divisions to discuss and address daily issues and/or concerns as necessary.
- Sees that all tools and equipment, materials are safely stored and properly used; prepares and maintains payrolls, production reports, accident and injury reports, personnel reports, and all other required records.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must have in his possession, at all times while doing so, valid credentials required by federal and state laws, including CDL (with airbrake endorsement) drivers license, Class B; will be required to operate railway highway motor vehicles; must be capable of operating all FEC Maintenance of Way vehicles in its fleet regardless of transmission configuration, must have standard railroad watch; be familiar with and understand Track Safety Standards as published by the Federal Railroad Administration; must have copy of current timetable; and must qualify and secure motor car maintainer permit.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
