We are looking for a motivated, analytical, and resourceful Clinical and Research Scientist to join our team.

How you will add value to 20BLOC

The Clinical and Research Scientist will support scientific strategy and research initiatives through literature analysis, technical evaluation and interpretation of scientific and patent-related information. This role bridges scientific research, technical analysis, and business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct deep-dive reviews of scientific publications, patents, clinical papers, posters, and presentations to evaluate scientific relevance, technical feasibility, and strategic implications.
  • Analyze and synthesize large volumes of scientific and patent-related information into concise technical conclusions and recommendations.
  • Analyze competitor clinical pipelines, study outcomes, regulatory updates, and scientific publications to assess competitive positioning.
  • Perform literature reviews and technical assessments related to protein therapeutics, microbial expression systems, bioprocessing, analytical methods, and biotechnology platforms.
  • Support freedom-to-operate (FTO) and prior art assessments through patent and literature analysis.
  • Interpret patent claims, patent families, claim scope, continuations/divisionals.
  • Assist with organization and interpretation of experimental and scientific data to support R&D decision-making.
  • Select, engage, and manage clinical research organizations for both clinical and nonclinical trials.
  • Present scientific findings and recommendations in clear, concise formats suitable for both scientific and non-scientific audiences.

Education

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Protein Engineering, Chemical Biology, or related life science fields required.
  • Advanced degree preferred for roles involving extensive scientific interpretation and technical analysis.

Experience

  • 3-6+ years of experience in biotech, biopharma R&D, scientific strategy, technical research, literature analysis, competitive intelligence, life sciences consulting, or related scientific fields.
  • Experience with biologics, protein therapeutics, protein expression, or bioprocessing strongly preferred.
  • Experience conducting literature reviews, scientific assessments, and technical analysis required.
  • Prior experience with patent analysis, FTO reviews, or IP-related scientific support preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of protein expression systems, microbial expression platforms, protein purification workflows, and analytical characterization methods.
  • Strong understanding of clinical trial design, statistical concepts, endpoints, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong scientific critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Strong literature review and technical writing capabilities.
  • Familiarity with USPTO, WIPO, Google Patents, scientific literature databases, and related research tools preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable translating complex scientific and technical information into business-relevant insights.
  • Proficiency in tools like PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and scientific data presentation.

This is a full-time, on-site position located in Thousand Oaks, California, and requires working on-site Monday through Friday. All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are not sponsoring employment visas.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $100,000.00. to $140,00.00 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including, without limitation, individual education, experience, tenure, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data, including potential adjustments for geographic location.
