The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. The college benefits pets and their owners, food-producing animals, and wildlife by offering the highest quality hospital and diagnostic laboratory services. Equipped with the most technologically advanced facilities located on a university campus, the college is dedicated to safeguarding public health by studying emerging infectious diseases that affect both animal and human health.

Position Summary

The University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Population Health invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of Poultry Health. Responsibilities associated with this position include research (70%), teaching (20%), and service (10%). The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an independent extramurally funded research program with the aim of solving infectious disease problems in the poultry industry. Avenues of research that focus on the interactions between poultry management practices and disease are welcome. The selected faculty member will also be expected to teach in the undergraduate and graduate curriculums and to perform service activities in support of the University’s mission. It is expected that the successful candidate will collaborate with other faculty members in the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center (PDRC), the College of Veterinary Medicine, and other Colleges and Centers at UGA to advance the field of poultry health.

Rank, salary, and terms of appointment will be dependent upon qualifications and experience of the applicant.

Tenure Track Associate Professor

Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in the field of avian virology, bacteriology, parasitology, immunology, vaccinology or a related discipline , and a minimum of 5-years of experience in rank at the Assistant Professor level before the start date.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, And/or Certification

  • DVM or equivalent degree with optional advanced certifications or training
  • At least two years of postdoctoral experience
  • History working with poultry industry

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies

  • Knowledge: Avian virology, bacteriology, parasitology, immunology, vaccinology, poultry production, diseases of poultry, control of poultry diseases
  • A strong record of teaching and research productivity
  • A strong track record of collaboration and an interest in expanding cross-disciplinary approaches to solve problems resulting from pathogens in poultry
  • Expertise in clinical virology, bacteriology, parasitology, immunology, vaccinology or related field as it relates to poultry pathogens
