Role Description
The Camp Education Specialist is a part-time (optional full time), on-site role based in Hoboken, NJ. This team member is responsible for designing, developing, and facilitating engaging educational and enrichment programs for children and teens in a camp setting. The ideal candidate is passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity, confidence, and personal growth.
Responsibilities include developing age-appropriate curriculum, lesson plans, and activities that may focus on a variety of specialty areas, including STEM, arts, leadership, wellness, life skills, culture, entrepreneurship, media, or other enrichment topics. The Camp Education Specialist will lead interactive workshops and hands-on learning experiences while adapting programming to meet the diverse interests and needs of participants.
This role works closely with camp leadership and staff to create new program offerings, evaluate program effectiveness, and continuously improve the camp's educational and enrichment opportunities. Additional responsibilities include supervising participants, fostering a safe and inclusive environment, supporting positive youth development, and contributing to the overall success of camp programming.
Qualifications
- Strong background in Education, including experience designing and delivering youth-focused learning or enrichment programs.
- Excellent Communication skills, with the ability to engage youth, collaborate with colleagues, and interact professionally with caregivers and community partners.
- Customer Service skills to support participants and families with empathy, responsiveness, and a solution-focused approach.
- Training experience, including facilitating group activities, leading workshops, or providing instruction in camp, school, or community settings.
- Research skills to identify best practices, develop curriculum, and adapt programming to youth needs and interests.
- Experience working with diverse youth and teen populations in community, camp, or after-school programs.
- Ability to manage groups safely, maintain a positive atmosphere, and respond appropriately to behavioral or safety concerns.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in education, youth development, social work, or related field preferred.
- Availability to work part-time on-site in Hoboken, NJ, including afternoons, evenings, or weekends as needed.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain prior to or shortly after hire is preferred.
