Bookkeeper - Accounting Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized bookkeeper to support the day-to-day financial operations of our second generation, family owned business. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, assisting with accounts payable and receivable, and supporting month-end reporting. The ideal candidate has prior experience with construction businesses, is dependable, eager to learn, performs the work in a highly reliable and accurate manner and is comfortable working with accounting software and spreadsheets.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Record and maintain daily financial transactions
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Prepare invoices and follow up on outstanding payments
- Assist with payroll processing and employee expense reimbursement
- Assist with generating financial reports
- Maintain organized financial documentation and filing systems
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulations
- Communicate with vendors and customers regarding billing questions
- Support audits by providing necessary documentation and reports
- Assist with any other duties and projects management as requested by the management team
Required Qualifications/Skills
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper or similar accounting role
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in accounting software (Computer Ease preferred) and Microsoft Excel
- Diligent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Ability to understand and follow directions
Certifications/ Licenses
- Notary license to provide those services for the office as requested. (Preferred)
Education and Experience
- Preferred 2 year degree, a minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent required; coursework in accounting, bookkeeping, or business administration preferred
- 5+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or related experience
Physical Demands and Work Requirements
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
- Ability to occasionally lift and move office supplies up to 20 pounds
