Theatre Distribution Intern

NEON Rated

NEON is looking for a Theatrical Distribution Intern for the Fall. Someone analytically sharp, detail-oriented, and genuinely excited about how independent films find their audiences.

You'll work alongside the theatrical distribution team on real projects: tracking box office performance, supporting film releases, assisting with exhibitor outreach, and helping coordinate screenings and in-person activations. You'll get hands-on experience with what it actually takes to get a film from acquisition to the big screen.

Our internships are built around real work, the kind that actually appears in the world and moves the needle for films we believe in. For students who want to understand how independent film really works from the inside, there's no better place to learn how films get from acquisition to the big screen, build meaningful connections, and get mentored by people who genuinely love what they do.

This internship is part of NEON's Undergraduate Internship Program, which gives you more than a single-team experience. Beyond working closely with your Theatrical Distribution colleagues, you'll take part in structured programming, get cross-functional exposure across the company, and go through professional development alongside a cohort of fellow interns.

What makes the NEON internship different

  • Dive Deep — Get practical experience across film distribution, from marketing and publicity to acquisitions, digital distribution, and theatrical sales.
  • Find Your Fit — We tailor your internship to your interests, placing you on projects that actually inspire you.
  • Become Part of the Team — You'll work alongside industry veterans who are serious about mentoring the next generation.

What you'll gain: Hands-on industry experience, behind-the-scenes insight into how films are released and reach audiences theatrically, professional connections that outlast the summer, and the confidence to take on whatever comes next.

Theatrical Distribution Intern Responsibilities

  • Assist our distribution team with box office report entry, invoicing, and updating release calendars.
  • Conduct grassroots and organizational outreach for current and upcoming NEON releases.
  • Keep track of and update a catalog of contacts for non-theatrical sales.
  • Assist in communicating with exhibitors for all of their in-theater marketing needs.
  • Conducting routine theater checks of key LA cinemas
  • Attending Q&A screenings and working with theater managers on-site
  • Supporting screening events and ensuring NEON’s presence is seamless and professional
  • Assist with special events and screenings.
  • General administrative and shipping support.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in theatrical distribution.
