Quality Engineer

Micro Matic

Job Details

Job Summary: Micro Matic Taprite is seeking a hands-on, self-driven Quality Engineer who takes ownership of quality performance across the organization. This role requires a proactive problem solver who can independently identify issues, investigate root causes, and implement practical solutions that support both product quality and operational efficiency.

The Quality Engineer serves as a key resource to production, engineering, customer service, suppliers, and customers, providing timely support to contain issues, analyze nonconformances, and ensure processes are followed. This role operates in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and requires a strong presence on the production floor to investigate issues, support operations, and gather information firsthand.

In many cases, the necessary data may not already exist. The Quality Engineer must be capable of determining what data should be collected, establishing practical methods to capture it, and using that information to support sound analysis and decision-making.

This position requires a pragmatic approach to quality, balancing sound quality practices with the realities and scale of the operation. The successful candidate will be comfortable wearing multiple hats, working independently, and driving problems to resolution with minimal direction.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary quality resource for production, responding to internal quality issues, implementing containment actions, and driving nonconformances to timely resolution.
  • Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methods and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Own and manage the Corrective Action process, ensuring timely investigation, root cause analysis, and implementation of sustainable solutions
  • Participate in and support the Material Review Board (MRB) process, coordinating evaluation and disposition of nonconforming materials.
  • Define and implement data collection methods when necessary to support problem investigation, performance monitoring, and process improvement.
  • Analyse quality and production data and prepare internal quality metrics and reports used to monitor performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct process audits and inspections to confirm compliance with internal procedures, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Support external audits conducted by customers or regulatory bodies by preparing documentation, participating in audit activities, and addressing audit findings.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service and customers to investigate complaints, manage the RMA process, and ensure timely resolution of field issues.
  • Work with suppliers to address quality concerns, support supplier corrective actions (SCARs), and assist with supplier quality activities such as First Article Inspections and incoming inspection issues.
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications to identify potential quality risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support and maintain elements of the Quality Management System, including procedures, work instructions, and quality documentation.
  • Support and maintain the calibration program to ensure measurement equipment is properly controlled and maintained.
  • Participate in cross-functional improvement initiatives and new product development projects.
  • Perform hands-on inspection and measurement activities as needed to support investigations and production needs.
  • Perform other duties as required to support quality and operational objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing quality engineering role supporting production environments.
  • Strong root cause analysis and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize issues, and drive problems to resolution with minimal direction.
  • Experience working with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems, internal auditing, and regulatory or customer audit processes.
  • Ability to analyse data and develop practical methods for collecting and using data when systems are not already in place.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment, including performing measurements, inspections, and investigations directly on the production floor.
  • Ability to adapt quality practices to the scale and needs of the operation while maintaining sound engineering judgment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with production personnel, engineers, suppliers, and customers.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May be required to directly supervise Quality Engineering Technician or Inspectors (s).
