Youth Mentor

Crossover

  • Campus-based position at the Alpha School in Brownsville, TX
  • W2 annual salary of $100,000, distributed weekly. Health benefits begin on day one.
  • Relocation assistance provided in exchange for a one-school-year on-campus commitment

You've built your career around coaching young people — not instructing them. You understand the distinction: coaching means connecting with students, pushing them, and refusing to accept anything less than their full potential. Instruction is about content transfer. You've never seen yourself as a content transfer mechanism.

Alpha operates one of the most non-traditional schools you'll encounter. Students don't occupy rows while someone lectures at the front. They progress through AI-driven learning applications individually, moving at their own speed. The AI delivers academic instruction. Your responsibility is to facilitate life skills workshops that capture the attention of K-8 students, lead motivation sessions that drive them toward their weekly learning targets, and maintain standards when a student tries to disengage. The academic piece runs itself. You manage the human element.

This position offers meaningful upward trajectory, and that trajectory is measured in student outcomes. Those who reliably achieve their metrics (100% cohort completion of weekly app targets, satisfaction ratings above 90%) advance into Lead Guide positions where they train other educators in these methods. Students remain the central focus.

The campus sits in Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If your motivation for changing jobs is the mission — transforming how a child sees their own capability — rather than a credential for your CV, you should apply.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating hour-long life skills workshops for K-8 students on topics including public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange
  • Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify students have truly acquired the skill, not merely attended
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions informed by student profiles, personal interests, and Coachbot analytics to ensure 100% of your cohort achieves their weekly app progression goals
  • Leveraging narrative techniques, incentive systems (school currency, leaderboards), and one-on-one rapport to overcome student reluctance
  • Monitoring cohort satisfaction ratings to maintain a 90%+ benchmark on student surveys

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Leading traditional lectures at the front of a classroom. Students progress academically via self-paced AI-powered applications, not through direct instruction from you.
  • Passive supervision. The environment involves students working on computers; the role requires active facilitation.
  • Compromising standards in response to student resistance. Test2Pass expectations remain consistent, even when a student is facing difficulties that week.
  • Creating curriculum materials from the ground up. Workshop frameworks and lesson plans are supplied; your responsibility is to execute them with the narrative skill and presence that ensures students truly internalize the content.
  • Handling parent communication, admissions processes, or campus administration. Those functions belong to other roles.
