Urgent Hiring: Telecommunications OSP Design Engineer
Locations: Jackson, MS / New Orleans, LA / Little Rock, AR
Length of Assignment: 12 months – possibility to extend based on performance/position need
Pay range: $67.52 - 70.82/hr on w2 (all inclusive)
Per diem amount: $161/day
We are seeking an experienced Telecommunications OSP Design Engineer to support a leading electric utility company in designing and implementing critical telecommunications infrastructure that supports transmission, distribution, SCADA, protection & control systems, substations, generation facilities, and enterprise communications networks.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and engineer fiber optic OSP networks (aerial & underground)
• Perform microwave radio system design, RF path analysis, and link budget calculations
• Develop telecom site infrastructure including towers, shelters, backup power, and related facilities
• Conduct field surveys, site assessments, and engineering evaluations
• Support telecommunications projects for substations, power plants, control centers, and utility operations
• Coordinate with engineering, operations, construction, and project management teams
• Prepare engineering drawings, cost estimates, work scopes, and technical documentation
• Ensure compliance with utility, NESC, NEC, Telcordia, IEEE, and industry standards
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Telecommunications, Electronics Engineering, or related discipline
Strong experience in Fiber Optic OSP Design and/or Microwave System Engineering
Knowledge of Fiber Networks, RF Engineering, MPLS, Carrier Ethernet, SONET/SDH, and IP Networking
Experience with GIS platforms (ArcGIS, Smallworld), AutoCAD/MicroStation, and telecom asset management systems
Familiarity with NESC, NEC, utility telecom standards, and telecommunications best practices
Experience performing engineering calculations including fiber power budgets, RF link budgets, path reliability, and structural loading analysis
Preferred Qualifications:
Utility Telecommunications experience
SCADA, Protective Relaying, Distribution Automation, or Grid Communications experience
OTDR Testing, RF Site Surveys, Spectrum Analysis, and Telecom Commissioning
ConnectMaster, ServiceNow, or similar OSS/Work Management tools
Professional Engineer (PE) License or relevant industry certifications
