Serves as the lead visual storyteller for SIU School of Medicine and SIU Medicine. Produces professional photography, videography and multimedia content supporting marketing, communications, education, research, advancement and clinical operations. Maintains and curates digital asset libraries and visual content archives while ensuring compliance with institutional policies, patient privacy requirements and brand standards.

Examples of Duties
40% Photography and visual storytelling
Creates professional photography and video content supporting institutional priorities including patient care, research, education, faculty recruitment, advancement, events, executive communications and marketing campaigns. Plans, captures and edits photography and video projects both in studio and on location. Produces content in clinical environments, research laboratories, exam rooms, operating rooms, classrooms, offices, community locations and special events, both indoors and outdoors.
25% Videography and video editing
Plans, develops, captures and edits video content for websites, social media, digital signage, presentations, recruitment initiatives, training and executive communications.
15% Content planning, scheduling and project management
Coordinates and schedules photography and videography sessions and manages project logistics, permissions, releases, equipment preparation and production timelines.
10% Digital asset management and archives
Manages digital asset systems, photography archives, video libraries, metadata standards and content retrieval processes.
10% Social media and multimedia content optimization
Creates and formats content for websites, social media, digital signage, email marketing and other institutional communication channels.
Produces clinical and scientific photography in compliance with HIPAA, patient consent requirements and institutional policies. Coordinates freelance photographers and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Credentials to be Verified by Placement Officer
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any combination totaling five (5) years (60 months) from the following categories:
- college course work in photography, digital manipulation and processing or a closely related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
- progressively more responsible work experience in professional photographic work.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA’s)
- Knowledge of photography and photographic processes.
- Knowledge of the operation of photographic equipment.
- Knowledge and experience with Photoshop.
- Skill in file management and organizing.
- Ability to supervise.
- Ability to perform photographic assignments with a high degree of skill, creativity, and quality.
Condition of Employment
