ROLE AND PURPOSE
Coordinate daily operations of personnel and equipment involved in transporting students and staff on field trips, including Suburbans, and vehicle/charter rentals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification
- High school diploma
- Acceptable driving record
- Valid Class A or B CDL w/ P&S endorsement or ability to obtain within 60 days
- Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate or ability to obtain within 60 days
- Ability to pass and maintain DOT Physical
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
- Proficient skills in keyboarding, word processing, software, and file maintenance
- Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal and organizational skills
- Proficient use of radio communication
- Ability to resolve conflict
- Handle phone calls and complaints professionally
- Coordinate with school campus personnel
- Experience in bus field trips scheduling & billing software
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
I. SPECIAL TRIPS COORDINATION
- Assign drivers and attendants on all special trips.
- Work with all district departments and campuses in transportation assignments for students and staff
- Work with dispatch and supervisors to verify what employees are (not) eligible for trips
- Communicate to all drivers on avoiding toll roads and make changes as needed
- Coordinate arrangements with staff/sponsors for field trips
- Collect field trip sheets, verify accuracy, and correct where needed
- Able to compute time and distance for billing of special trips
- Coordinate charter trips and vehicle rentals with district approved companies
- Maintain schedule of district Suburbans and arrange for rentals as needed
- Maintain district approved driver list and coordinate training as needed
- Work with Transportation Management and school administrators in reference to video tape reviews from the bus(s), and maintain a chain of custody for the tapes
- Verify credentials of all transportation employees before assigning vehicles to them
- Assist with in-service meetings for all coaches, teachers, secretaries, bus drivers and attendants
- Coordinate with the Safety Department to develop a safety program for drivers and attendants
- Maintain rapport with public and handle problems or concerns in prompt and courteous manner
- Assist in Transportation Dispatch as needed
- Must be available for after-hours (and weekends) calls
- Drive or attend on a school bus as needed
- All other duties as assigned by the Director or their designee
II. ORGANIZATION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare scheduled field trip reports, goals, and benchmark information
- Notify bus drivers and campuses of any changes regarding the field trip(s)
- Foster positive morale by participating in the decision-making process
- Be supportive of and implement department directives and requests in developing plans to meet future transportation needs
- Coordinate with all Transportation Departments to verify validity of credentials and time sheets
III. WORKING CONDITIONS

- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computers and peripherals
- Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping
- Motion: Moderate walking
- Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds, unless expected to drive/attend on school bus)
- Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather)
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions: maintain emotional control under stress, with frequent interruptions
The AISD Transportation Department operates on the team concept. Each employee will be cross trained to perform the jobs of other staff members.
