Title: Project Accountant

Location: Greater Chicago Area

Salary: Up to $95k - $110k (DOE)

We are working with a growing excavation and construction company seeking an experienced Project Accountant to support financial operations and partner closely with executive leadership. This individual will play a key role in managing project accounting functions, job costing, and month-end close activities while ensuring financial accuracy across multiple projects.

The Role

The Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing project financials, supporting month-end close processes, and maintaining accurate accounting records. This role will work closely with the CFO and operations teams to provide financial insights, track project performance, and ensure the integrity of accounting processes.

Responsibilities

· Manage project accounting activities, including job costing and project financial reporting

· Assist the CFO with month-end and year-end close processes

· Prepare account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules

· Monitor project budgets, costs, and profitability

· Maintain general ledger accuracy and financial records

· Process and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions

· Support cash flow reporting and forecasting activities

· Assist with audits and compliance requirements

· Identify process improvements and strengthen internal controls

· Collaborate with project managers and operations teams on project financial performance

What They're Looking For

· 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within construction, excavation, or project-based environments

· Advanced QuickBooks proficiency required (no exceptions)

· Strong understanding of job costing and project accounting principles

· Experience supporting month-end close and financial reporting processes

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred

· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

· Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with executive leadership

· Stable employment history with demonstrated long-term commitment in previous roles

· Construction industry experience strongly preferred
