The Zilber College is Wisconsin’s only college of public health accredited by the Council on Public Health Education (CEPH). It is also home to Wisconsin’s only MPH path to the Registered Dietitian credential accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The Zilber College embraces its mission to advance population health, health equity, and social and environmental justice among diverse communities in Milwaukee, the state of Wisconsin, and beyond through education, research, community engagement, and advocacy for health-promoting policies and strategies. We educate current and future health professionals in the science, practice, critical thinking, and leadership skills necessary to promote population health and reduce health inequities.

Key Job Responsibilities
UWM’s Zilber College of Public Health offers a comprehensive portfolio of undergraduate and graduate degree programs spanning public health, nutrition, kinesiology, and informatics, all anchored in experiential learning. The Experiential Learning Specialist designs, implements, and evaluates outreach and experiential learning activities that connect students with community-based practice. This role cultivates and sustains external partnerships, supports program administration, and strengthens reciprocal relationships between the university and the local community. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic & Student Affairs.
Teaching: 37.5%
- Delivers for-credit experiential learning coursework. Regularly evaluates and revises curriculum for best practices in pedagogy and high-quality student experiences
Field Placement Coordination: 25%
- Receives inquiries and project proposals from potential placement sites.
- Supports students in communicating with potential sites and preceptors.
- Supports completion of learning agreements. Manages database of past and current placements and projects
Experiential Learning Facilitation & Evaluation: 15%
- Develops and delivers student-facing workshops and communication.
- Updates and posts student-facing placement materials.
- Serves as point of contact for issues during placements.
- Serves as instructor support for experiential learning courses with faculty instructors.
- Fields surveys for placement evaluations. Updates and manages dissemination of student handbooks and forms
External Relationship Cultivation & Management: 20%
- Conducts outreach to current sites for new projects, placement satisfaction, and needed support.
- Updates and manages dissemination of preceptor handbooks and forms.
- Manages needed institutional agreements.
- Conducts outreach to new contacts to build placement network.
- Provides content for monthly preceptor newsletter. Plans and implements annual preceptor event
Other Duties: 2.5%
Compensation
$60,000 (commensurate with education and experience)
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in public health, education, student affairs, higher education administration, or a closely related field by start date.
Experience coordinating or supporting experiential learning, internships, practica, or community-based programs.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a school or college of public health or health sciences setting.
Experience building and sustaining partnerships with public health agencies, nonprofits, or healthcare organizations.
Experience with program assessment, data tracking, or experiential learning management systems.
