Fire Alarm Design Specialist

Job Summary: The Fire Alarm Design Specialist is responsible for developing and managing fire alarm system designs for commercial construction projects. This role works closely with field teams, customers, and project stakeholders to create accurate CAD-based plans, including layouts, riser diagrams, and bills of materials. The specialist ensures all designs meet project specifications, fire life safety codes, and AHJ requirements while managing multiple projects across various construction phases. They also support updates based on field changes, maintain clear communication throughout the project lifecycle, and contribute to overall project success from design through completion.

Responsibilities

  • Fire Alarm Designer oversees the design of various commercial fire alarm construction project designs
  • Work very closely with Field Operations and Customers
  • As a Full-Time Fire Alarm Designer, you will play a key role in crafting accurate CAD format packages for our fire alarm plans
  • Managing multiple projects from inception to completion, ensuring they align with project hours and different construction phases
  • Reviewing project scope, product specifications, and fire life safety code compliance for consistency with project specifications, AHJ requirements, and engineer/architect input
  • Preparing comprehensive system layouts, including floor plans, Bill of Materials (BOM), sequences of operations, riser diagrams, panel layouts, and calculations
  • Updating plans based on field changes to create precise as-built drawings
  • Maintaining clear and consistent communication with external customers and internal teams regarding design updates, timelines, and approvals
  • Utilizing in-house printing resources to present your designs professionally
  • Taking on additional assignments as delegated by our Operations team
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fire alarm systems
  • Experience operating AutoCad - working with floor plans(2D), working blocks, working with external references, working with page setups.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite (Word & Excel) and Adobe
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Empathy and problem-solving skills for customer and employee satisfaction
  • Familiarity with NFPA 72 for Fire Life Safety Code
  • Ability to read architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans
  • Strong organizational skills for time management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree in related studies
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in fire alarm systems
  • Experience operating AutoCad and BlueBeam
  • Understanding of Fire Alarm Systems how it interfaces with other traits
  • NICET or other certifications in the special systems industry
  • Professional demeanor and positive outlook

  • Compensation: $25 - $32 hourly
  • Working Hours: This position generally works Monday- Friday, overtime and on call when necessary
