Job Summary
The Director of Marketing provides strategic leadership for Albany State University's marketing and brand amplification function, overseeing the development and execution of integrated marketing campaigns that advance enrollment growth, employer partnership visibility, alumni engagement, and institutional brand positioning. Reporting directly to the Vice President and Chief University Growth Officer, the Director of Marketing leads the Marketing and Communications team including the Lead Designer, Lead Photographer and Visual Content Manager, and digital and content staff and is the primary architect of ASU's paid media strategy, digital presence, and campaign calendar. This reclassification reflects the expanded scope of leadership, strategy, and team management responsibilities the role now carries within the CUGO division.
Responsibilities
Strategic Marketing Leadership
- Develop and execute an integrated annual marketing plan aligned with ASU 2035 Growth Horizon goals: enrollment growth to 10,000+ students, 25+ Fortune 500 employer partnerships, and Top 50 South regional ranking.
- Lead the CUGO division's paid media strategy including digital advertising, micro-targeting for new revenue programs, and platform-specific campaigns.
- Oversee ASU brand standards across all channels, ensuring consistency and quality in every institutional touchpoint.
- Partner with the VP and CUGO to align marketing investments with partnership amplification, IBM SkillsBuild engagement, Kaplan All Access promotion, and alumni relations.
Team Leadership and Management
- Directly supervise the Lead Designer, Lead Photographer and Visual Content Manager, and marketing support staff.
- Provide mentorship, performance management, and professional development for all direct reports.
- Manage marketing interns and ensure intern programs deliver real project experience aligned with department priorities.
- Lead weekly team standups and oversee content calendar management across all channels.
Campaign Execution and Analytics
- Manage the CRM and marketing automation platform, overseeing campaign setup, audience segmentation, and performance optimization.
- Establish cost-per-inquiry and cost-per-application benchmarks and report performance against goals to the VP quarterly.
- Oversee the ASU website post-launch, ensuring content is current, conversion-optimized, and reflects institutional priorities.
- Manage relationships with advertising agencies, media buying partners, and digital marketing vendors.
Cross-Divisional Collaboration
- Collaborate with the VP for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management on enrollment marketing strategy.
- Partner with Academic Affairs on program-specific marketing for Georgia ONmyLINE, Executive Education, and new academic program launches.
- Coordinate with the Executive Director of Media to align Broadcast Center content with institutional marketing campaigns.
- Support employer partner communications, MOU announcement campaigns, and corporate partnership visibility.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of progressive marketing experience, including at least two years in a leadership or management role.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated digital marketing campaigns.
- Proficiency with CRM and marketing automation platforms, paid media management, and analytics tools.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with experience supervising creative and marketing staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education marketing or enrollment marketing.
- Familiarity with USG institutions, HBCU communications, or Title IX/compliance marketing contexts.
- Experience with website management, UX strategy, and digital content operations.
- Master's degree in a related field.
