Responsibilities

  • The Research Faculty I candidate will serve as one of the lead researchers on substance abuse prevention projects, with a special focus on opioid use prevention and abatement.
  • Work closely with the FCPR Director, other FCPR researchers, grant sponsors, and other community partners in carrying out grant activities and ensuring grant deliverables are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Oversee data collection, management, and analysis of data collected during research projects, including quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Work individually and with the FCPR team to disseminate research findings through preparing manuscripts for publication, technical reports to meet grant reporting requirements, and conference presentations.
  • Seek additional external funding sources by preparing grant applications that align with the mission of FCPR, with the goal of serving as Principal Investigator on future projects.
  • Mentoring junior research faculty and graduate students.

Qualifications

  • Academic doctorate or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution in Social Work, Public Health, and Human Development & Family Science or related social science field.
  • Demonstrated record of achievement in research, with an established or growing record of research in substance abuse prevention or substance use disorder.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research designs, with experience using data management and data analysis systems and software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, MPlus, R, Qualtrics).
  • Highly proficient with computer software programs including Microsoft Suite, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Creative, motivated, and able to work well individually and with a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of research success in substance abuse prevention, substance use disorder, or opioid use disorder.
  • Experience in opioid prevention and abatement
  • Experience in policy analysis of substance-related issues
  • Experience or knowledge of program evaluation research methodologies
  • Excellent mentoring skills, which are highly valued as critical contributors to our mission of training the next generation of scholars
  • Experience in grant writing and management.

The Florida Center for Prevention Research (FCPR) at Florida State University seeks an experienced researcher to serve as a key team member on soft-funded Substance Abuse Prevention research projects. We seek candidates with an established or developing program of research in Substance Abuse Prevention or Substance Use Disorder, whose work and passions align with the FCPR mission. This position will work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers from FCPR as well as others across FSU.
