Summary Description

Catholic Charities is seeking a mission- and data-driven accountant to serve as our Accounting Manager. This one-person department will oversee the day-to-day running of the organization as well as work closely with the Executive Director on strategy and budgets. The Accounting Manager will ensure accurate financial record keeping, support budget development and monitoring, and provide regular financial reporting. Primary responsibilities also include tracking grant expenses, managing accounts receivable and payable, producing monthly invoices, and processing payroll. The Accounting Manager also works with the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee to refine and maintain the organization’s financial systems. This is a great position for a staff accountant looking to move into a leadership role.

Responsibilities

Strategy and budgeting:

  • Lead annual budgeting process in conjunction with the leadership team. Monitor budget to actual progress and keep Executive Director and board abreast of the organization’s financial results.
  • Collaborate with Development and program staff on grant application budget development and grant budget modifications. Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation for grant reporting.
  • Prepare and send monthly financial statements to the Board

Accounting and bookkeeping:

  • Manage all general ledger and subsidiary journals, including cash and credit card receipts, cash disbursements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue releases, payroll accounts, cash flow forecasting, and grants administration and reporting
  • Work with emergency assistance staff to review and process pledges
  • Ensure proper allocation and tracking of grant expenses. Monitor grant budgets and restricted funds to ensure compliance with funder requirements.
  • Code and process invoices for payments. Ensure all bills are paid in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure compliance with Office of Charitable Gaming regulations for the organization’s annual Bingo fundraiser. Work with the Development team to complete quarterly reports.
  • Maintain vendor accounts including W-9 forms. Produce 1099’s annually.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process & tax return preparation.
  • Prepare and submit invoices for grant reimbursement.

Payroll/Human resources:

  • Submit biweekly payroll to payroll contractor
  • Keep up with the personnel report for Diocese of Shreveport.
  • Process employer/employee retirement contributions concurrently with payroll.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting or a Certification in Bookkeeping with comparable experience
  • Minimum 3 years of nonprofit accounting or financial management experience.
  • Experience with nonprofit financial reporting and grant compliance, including managing grant budgets, restricted funding and funder financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and financial operations.
  • Experience preparing financial reports and analyzing financial performance.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems, such as QuickBooks, and advanced Excel skills.

Skills

  • Experience with budget monitoring.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret financial data and identify trends and risks.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance staff and leaders.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with programs, development, HR and operations teams.

WORK HOURS AND LOCATION

8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (rare evening and weekend work required).
