Performance Engineering is hiring a Controller in Billings, Montana.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a financial leader who wants to do more than manage accounting. This role will help guide financial operations, improve project-level insight, support profitability and build the financial foundation for the next stage of our company.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity with direct access to ownership, meaningful influence on business decisions and room to grow into broader financial leadership responsibility.

Role Description

  • Lead accounting and financial operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, reconciliations and reporting
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes
  • Oversee financial activity across multiple affiliated entities
  • Track project profitability, utilization, budgets, billing and operational performance
  • Prepare executive, board and management reporting packages
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning and KPI reporting
  • Coordinate tax filings, audits, compliance needs and external financial relationships
  • Build scalable financial systems, processes and internal controls
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to ownership and leadership

What We’re Looking For

Preferred candidates will have a CPA and 2+ years of progressive accounting, financial management or controllership experience. Candidates with 5+ years of full-cycle accounting or bookkeeping experience and demonstrated financial management responsibilities will also be considered.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Experience managing complete accounting operations
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills
  • Self-starter with a strong ownership mentality
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial team members
  • Experience in engineering, construction, consulting or other project-based industries preferred
  • Experience with Deltek Ajera or a similar project accounting system is a plus
