Position Overview
Moon Valley Farm is seeking an experienced warehouse and operations manager to lead our new Montgomery County aggregation facility — the most significant infrastructure expansion in our organization's history. This is first and foremost a warehouse management role: you will be responsible for the daily operations of a ~10,000 sq. ft. perishable goods facility, managing staff, inventory, cold storage, receiving, order assembly, and outbound fulfillment in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
Equally important is a genuine connection to our mission. The ideal candidate brings proven warehouse leadership and a passion for local food systems — understanding that the infrastructure they manage directly supports regional farmers, institutional food access, and a more equitable food system in and around Montgomery County, MD.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse & Facility Operations (Primary Focus)
- Own daily warehouse operations: staff scheduling, workflow management, receiving, cold storage, order assembly, and outbound fulfillment
- Manage and develop a warehouse team including two Pack Employees; maintain accountability, efficiency, and a strong team culture
- Oversee real-time inventory tracking in Local Food Marketplace (LFM) across all stages of product flow
- Manage cold storage infrastructure (two refrigerated rooms, one freezer), forklift operations, and equipment maintenance
- Ensure full compliance with FSMA, GAP/GHP, PACA, and DOT regulations; maintain third-party audit readiness at all times
- Develop and implement SOPs for all facility functions; lead operational readiness for facility launch and ongoing continuous improvement
Facility Build-Out & Launch
- Support facility planning and contractor coordination during the build-out phase, working closely with Emma Jagoz and the facilities team
- Coordinate with food safety and HACCP plan reviewer on compliance documentation
- Assist with onboarding of warehouse team members as staffing scales up
Farmer Relations & Institutional Fulfillment
- Serve as on-site point of contact for farm partner deliveries; support new partner onboarding and quality standards communication
- Ensure accurate, timely fulfillment for institutional buyers including MCPS, Manna Food Center, Capital Area Food Bank, and Community FarmShare
- Maintain quality control across produce, proteins, dairy, eggs, and shelf-stable goods
Grant Compliance & Reporting
- Track and document operational data for grant performance reporting: volumes, farm sources, buyer distribution, and food safety records
- Support monthly and annual reporting to the Montgomery County Office of Food Systems Resilience
- Maintain records demonstrating grant-compliant use of facility, staff time, and expenditures across the four-year program
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of warehouse, distribution center, or food hub operations management experience — this is the core requirement for this role
- Demonstrated experience managing warehouse teams and workflows in a perishable goods environment
- Strong working knowledge of food safety compliance: FSMA, GAP/GHP, cold chain management
- Proficiency with inventory or order management platforms; valid driver's license
- Ability to work early morning hours consistent with produce distribution schedules
- Genuine commitment to MVF's mission of supporting local farmers and building an equitable food system
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in farm-to-institution supply chains, food hubs, or school food procurement
- Familiarity with PACA compliance and DOT fleet regulations
- GAP certification or food safety manager certification (ServSafe, PCQI, or equivalent)
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Experience supporting government grant compliance and performance reporting
- Forklift operator certification or demonstrated forklift experience
We are looking for someone who
- Brings proven warehouse leadership to a mission-driven organization
- Thrives in a fast-paced, early-morning distribution environment
- Takes ownership of compliance, safety, and operational excellence
- Is energized by the opportunity to build systems from the ground up
- Understands the importance of reliable fulfillment to farmers, institutions, and communities
This role is ideal for someone who values meaningful work, operational leadership, and supporting a growing local food system.
