Stooping Club is the world’s first free online chain store. We’re a nonprofit with the mission of giving useful items a second life by making reuse free and accessible for everyone. The Berkeley branch serves hundreds of customers across the Bay Area. We’re looking for a reliable, organized and detail-oriented Branch Lead to help lead day-to-day operations of the Berkeley branch during Summer & Fall 2026 while the founder is abroad.
We take pride in the trust our community places in us, and we look for people who take that trust as seriously as we do. This is visible, meaningful work for those who want ownership of something with real-world consequences. No two weeks will look exactly the same, and we value operators who can adapt, take initiative, and bring their full attention to whatever needs doing.
TO APPLY: please send your resume to ***email_hidden*** . Shortlisted candidates are required to complete an on-site interview (approximately 1 hour).
Primary Responsibilities
Inventory and Fulfillment
Manage the inventory pipeline — the process that transforms donations into products that customers can browse, order, and pick up. You will sort donated items and make thoughtful curation decisions about what belongs in the store. You will photograph items cleanly and accurately, write clear product descriptions, and publish listings to the Shopify storefront. The volume you maintain here directly determines how often the store feels fresh, well-stocked, and worth returning to. During the Fall 2026 semester, you will also coordinate transport of orders between the El Cerrito storage unit and the UC Berkeley campus.
Pickup Day Duties
Sunday availability required during pickup windows when customers arrive at the storage unit to collect their orders. You will staff the window, welcome customers, and ensure every pickup runs smoothly. Your warmth and reliability during pickup days is one of the most important things you will bring to this role.
Communications
Handle all communications promptly via text, call, and/or email. You will reach out to customers, donors, and community members to confirm pickup details, answer questions, and ensure that every interaction leaves people feeling valued and respected. Fast, warm, and personal communication is one of the traits that sets Stooping Club apart from every other organization.
Partnerships and Brand Management
Support existing institutional partnerships and help identify new opportunities as capacity allows. Grow organic reach through social media, campus presence, and anywhere else Stooping Club’s brand should be.
Team
You will be responsible for building and leading a small team of volunteers to support branch operations. This means recruiting people who believe in the mission and directing their efforts week to week so the branch runs at full capacity even when things get busy.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Strong leader, self-motivated, energetic, creative and kind.
- Organized with excellent time management skills.
- Dependable. When you say you will do something, it gets done.
- Fast learner who makes the right mistakes.
- Can track many moving parts across multiple projects.
- Reliable access to transportation for pickups and storage unit visits in El Cerrito.
- Able to lift and move items up to 50 lbs.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in retail or warehouse ops, logistics, customer service, the fashion industry, e-commerce, event ops, or nonprofits.
- Familiarity with Shopify, Google Suite, Instagram, Craigslist, Nextdoor, and AI platforms.
- Experience photographing products or creating online listings.
- Passion for sustainability, reuse, or circular economy.
What You’ll Gain
- Full ownership of branch operations — the kind of responsibility most students don’t get until much later in their careers.
- Hands-on experience running a nonprofit e-commerce store with hundreds of regular customers.
- Experience handling donated products across thousands of brands and dozens of categories from sorting to fulfillment.
- Direct relationships with customers, donors, partners, and volunteers who care about reuse and community impact.
- A strong founder reference for reliable, high-performing work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- A standout resume experience: running the flagship branch of the world’s first free online chain store.
What Success Looks Like
By the end of your time with us, you will have kept the Berkeley branch running smoothly and independently throughout Summer/Fall 2026, supported hundreds of customer orders, and maintained Stooping Club’s institutional partnerships. You will have built and led a volunteer team capable of sustaining work beyond any single person — and contributed to a branch operation strong and documented enough to serve as a model for reuse infrastructure on campuses across the country.
Stooping Club Foundation welcomes applicants from all backgrounds.
