TITLE: Chief Innovations Officer
DIVISION: Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC)
REPORTS TO: PHC President & CEO
OFFICE LOCATION: Sacramento
EXEMPTION STATUS: Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $125,000 to $150,000
POSITION SUMMARY: This position advances PHC's evolution as a workforce innovation leader by identifying high-leverage opportunities in physician workforce development, designing evidence-based solutions, building strategic partnerships, and positioning PHC as a backbone organization. This role bridges policy, innovation, and implementation – translating urgent workforce challenges into practical, scalable solutions while building PHC's market position as essential to California's workforce infrastructure.
WORKFORCE DESIGN & SOLUTION DEVELOPMENT
- Develop workforce strategies addressing statewide physician shortages, training capacity, equity barriers, and emerging challenges
- Conduct regular environmental scanning and opportunity analysis
- Develop strategic recommendations for new services, partnerships, and market opportunities
- Develop service offerings, pricing models, and go-to-market strategies
- Create implementation of roadmaps and success metrics
- Lead special projects and strategic initiatives from concept development through implementation
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & REVENUE GROWTH
- Lead business development efforts with health systems, government agencies, philanthropies, academic institutions, and other organizations invested in health equity.
- Support PHC evolution toward a sustainable, diversified business model
- Identify, cultivate, and pursue new funding opportunities, strategic partnerships, and revenue-generating initiatives
- Develop proposals, concept papers, business plans, research, and funding requests
PARTNERSHIP BUILDING & STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
- Build partnerships that expand PHC's reach and influence
- Identify and cultivate relationships with strategic partners across sectors
- Develop joint value propositions and partnership agreements
- Support CMA collaboration on physician workforce policy and budget advocacy
- Convene and facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in public administration, public health, English, or equivalent
- 10+ years healthcare leadership, policy, or strategy experience
- Demonstrated success developing and launching new programs or services
- Deep understanding of California healthcare and policy landscape
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Understanding of California healthcare landscape and policy environment
Preferred
- MBA, MPA, or equivalent advanced degree
- Experience in nonprofit management or social impact organizations
- Track record of successful partnerships and coalition building
- Experience with GME, medical education, or physician training
