DATCP currently has an opening for an International Economic Consultant position within the Division of Agricultural Development, Bureau of Export and Business Development.

This position is located at the Prairie Oaks State Office Building situated on Madison’s southeast side and a beautifully wooded and scenic hilltop venue. Our employees enjoy low-cost parking at the facility and are only minutes away from the Beltline Highway, Interstate 90 and Highway 51 for quick access to local restaurants, retail and service locations.

Remote Work Option: This position may have the ability to work remotely up to 6 days per 2-week pay period! An approved remote work agreement is required before an employee may work remotely. Approval of the employee’s remote work agreement and work schedule will vary based on the operational needs of the Division. All DATCP employees who work remotely are required to live in Wisconsin.

Position Summary

This position functions as an Economic Development Consultant with statewide responsibility to stimulate the State’s economy by assisting agribusinesses to increase their exports of Wisconsin’s diverse range of food, forestry and agricultural products through one-on-one consultations and by developing, leading and supporting trade promotion activities. The position serves as a state specialist for the assigned product and geographic areas, and provides consultative services to other state agencies, government officials, other program staff, and the associated agribusiness industries. The position also assists the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation in their efforts to promote and attract foreign direct investment to Wisconsin.

Salary Information

The classification of this position is Economic Development Consultant, which is in schedule-range 81-03 with a starting pay between $36.00 - $42.00 per hour (salary between $74,880 - $87,360 annually) based on qualifications.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.

Job Details

At DATCP, we strive to deliver efficient and effective programs and services to Wisconsin agriculture, consumers, and businesses. The Department has numerous on-the-job training (OJT) opportunities, unique to each Bureau.

These OJT opportunities include direct experience and practice through collaboration with co-workers/supervisor, peer mentoring, and job-specific training modules such as opportunities to attend various agriculture and trade related conferences and trade missions.

Conditions Of Employment

DATCP does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the selected applicant being able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.

A criminal background check will be performed on the selected applicant prior to an offer of employment.

Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to provide one’s own transportation for work purposes, is required.

Regular travel within the State of Wisconsin and overseas with overnight stay is required for approximately 30-40% of this position’s duties.

Ability to obtain a Passport and other required documents for international travel.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following:

  • Experience with international economics, trade policy, or trade agreements.
  • Experience developing and/or leading international trade missions or international in-bound buyers missions.
  • Experience with planning, development, and deployment of agriculture trade promotion activities (meetings, conferences, domestic/international trade shows, etc.).

Experience preparing and presenting information to businesses or senior-level groups (management teams, company leaders, external stakeholders, etc.).

In addition to the minimum qualifications above, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following:

  • Experience with supporting companies seeking to enter or expand sales to export markets.
  • Experience with sources of information on international markets, economic data and/or export data, including but not limited to Euromonitor, WISERTrade, FAOSTAT, and USDA data sets.
  • Experience with export regulations, documentation requirements, payment terms and/or logistics.
  • Experience with exporting in sales, marketing or business development.
  • Experience developing or presenting training on international export, marketing, or sales related technical topics to businesses or senior-level groups.
