Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in media monitoring and analysis, including volume, share of voice and sentiment metrics.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with proficiency in AP style.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a high attention to detail and adherence to tight deadlines.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and exercises sound judgment under pressure.
  • Strong collaboration skills and a results-driven mindset.

Lockheed Martin is seeking a Media Relations Strategist to join the Missiles and Fire Control (MFC) business area. Reporting to the Manager of Media Relations, the Media Relations Strategist will be a strategic, motivated public relations professional responsible for shaping and executing media relations efforts that highlight the business area’s portfolio, technologies and innovation. This role is critical to building and protecting MFC’s reputation through proactive storytelling and responsive media engagement.

What You Will Be Doing

The successful candidate will lead the development and execution of strategic media campaigns that elevate MFC’s role in delivering next-generation defense technologies. This individual will uncover and promote compelling innovation and munitions acceleration stories, manage high-stakes media moments, maintain strong relationships, and provide media relations expertise to colleagues.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead media strategy development and execution to secure high-impact coverage in national, trade and technology media outlets.
  • Identify and develop compelling storylines that align with business objectives and resonate with external audiences.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key journalists and editors through regular, proactive outreach.
  • Pitch complex, technical topics clearly and persuasively to general and trade media.
  • Act as a trusted partner to internal stakeholders, advising on media strategy and providing expert guidance on news releases, messaging and media opportunities.
  • Serve as a spokesperson, representing MFC in high-visibility or sensitive engagements.
  • Collaborate across integrated communications functions to align messaging and maximize impact.
  • Develop and manage integrated communications plans that include news releases, talking points, fact sheets, executive communications, op-eds and bylined articles.

Desired Skills

  • Experience managing or contributing to media training programs and spokesperson development.
