CareFlite provides critical medical transport services by helicopter and ground ambulance, as well as non-medical transport services.

Position Summary

CareFlite is seeking a highly skilled

Air Transport Paramedic to provide advanced life support and critical care during air, ground, and ECMO specialty transport operations. This role is responsible for patient assessment, advanced interventions, and ensuring safe, efficient, and timely transport across our service area.

This position is ideal for experienced paramedics who excel in high-acuity environments and are committed to clinical excellence and patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced life support and critical care during air, ground, and specialty transports
  • Assess patient conditions and perform advanced medical interventions within scope of practice
  • Collaborate with nurses, pilots, dispatchers, and healthcare teams to ensure coordinated care
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely patient documentation
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards
  • Demonstrate strong situational awareness in dynamic transport environments
  • Participate in continuous education and quality improvement initiatives

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Schedule: 24 hours on / 72 hours off, including holidays (365-day operations)
  • Overtime: May be required based on mission demand, emergencies, or staffing needs
  • Environment: Aircraft, ground ambulances, specialty vehicles, hospitals, and outdoor settings
    • Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, confined spaces, and operational hazards
    • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Travel: Frequent travel within the assigned service area; occasional overnight stays
  • On-Call: Participation in on-call rotation with required response times
  • Special Requirements: Ongoing compliance with licensure, certifications, annual competencies, and required training

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Texas Paramedic license
  • Minimum 3 years (4,000 hours) of experience in a busy 911 system as a primary/lead care provider
  • Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-stress, fast-paced environments

Required Certifications

  • BCLS, ACLS, PALS
  • Additional certifications (NRP, TPATC or ATLS audit) required prior to completion of orientation
  • FP-C certification required within 18 months of hire (first attempt required within 12 months)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree
  • FP-C or CCEMT-P certification at time of hire
  • Experience in critical care or specialty transport environments

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry patients and equipment (up to 100 lbs. with assistance)
  • Maximum allowable weight of 230 lbs. in full flight gear
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces
  • Exposure to loud noise, vibration, exhaust, rotating aircraft components, and bodily fluids
  • Must pass background check, drug screen, physical assessment, and audiology testing
  • Must demonstrate emotional resilience, multitasking ability, situational awareness, and composure under high-stress conditions
