Assistant Project Manager

Job Summary: As an Assistant Project Manager within Bosch’s Building Automation Division, you will provide critical technical and administrative support to a rotating team of Project Managers to ensure the seamless execution of construction and direct-owner projects. You will act as a key floor-level coordinator, managing essential lifecycles including job bookings, material procurement, and change order documentation while actively driving project profitability through timely invoicing and collections. By identifying potential project bottlenecks and coordinating with subcontractors and internal installation teams, you will ensure that all building automation systems are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides input to sales and operations regarding the technical and business considerations for construction or direct owner projects. This input could be associated with areas such as estimating, value engineering, timing, special resource needs, or other aspects peculiar to specific projects.
  • Ensures every new building automation project is booked accurately within Bosch’s internal systems, completing all necessary financial and administrative forms to kick off the project lifecycle correctly.
  • Ensures project documents, estimate, and other information are available to all necessary personnel to maximize Bosch Building Technologies’ productivity on the project.
  • Determines if customer expectations are similar to Bosch Building Technologies and if these can be achieved based upon Bosch Building Technologies’ estimate or contractual scope. Provides feedback on this as appropriate internally and externally.
  • Evaluates customer expectations against the contractual scope of work and Bosch’s internal estimates, providing proactive feedback to stakeholders if there is a gap in deliverables.
  • Identifies potential project roadblocks or technical conflicts early in the process and collaborates with the rotating Project Management team to implement corrective actions.
  • Accurately forecasts costs for each area of the project and tracks these over time to achieve budget and forecast goals.
  • Invoices projects timely and is actively engaged in collections to minimize aging.
  • Coordinates material orders and timing with Material Coordinator to maximize cash flow and material handling efficiency. Ensures all equipment is compatible and will function properly to achieve the required sequences.
  • Coordinates with Subcontractors or internal installation team to achieve maximum value in installations.
  • Tracks and forecasts project costs across all work areas to ensure the division meets its budget goals, including the completion of the monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) re-forecast.
  • Provides critical input to sales and operations regarding technical considerations, including estimating, value engineering, and identifying special resource needs for complex construction or direct-owner projects.
  • Identifies change order opportunities and coordinates with sales to document, pursue, and book them.
  • Provide support to Bosch Building Technologies and other contractors to solve building operating issues that go beyond the controls or special systems operation.
  • Provide leadership and input to others as requested or required to assist in the accurate estimation, design, installation, start up, commissioning, and training for building systems.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for consulting engineers, building owners/points of contact(s), and other contractors to ensure that engineering and start-up phases are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Reviews all engineered submittals to ensure they strictly adhere to the project scope, budget, customer expectations, and Bosch’s established location standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience working as a coordinator or administrative assistant to project managers with tasks and responsibilities within construction, building automation systems, or HVAC systems.
  • 2+ years of experience working in HVAC controls, building automation systems, building automation controls, and/or building management systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to travel to various locations and job sites within the region as required.
  • Ability to read and understand control wiring diagrams, blueprints, and project specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Construction Engineering/Management.
  • 3+ years of experience with project coordination, documentation, reporting, or work-in-progress (WIP) forecasting.
  • 1+ years of experience working with building automation systems/frameworks such as Distech, Alerton, Tridium/Niagara Framework or other OEM building automation controls.
  • Advanced working experience with project management and design tools such as Procore or Microsoft Project for scheduling.
  • Experience with mentoring, leading, and coaching team(s) within the Building Automation Systems (BAS) industry.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English, (ie see, hear, speak and write clearly) in order to communicate with colleagues and/or customers
  • Manual dexterity required for occasional reaching, lifting of light office objects, and operating office equipment
  • Sitting, standing, walking in office environments and construction sites
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to work at heights over 1.8m (6 feet)

Working Conditions

In general, the following conditions of the work environment are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted and ventilated. Noise levels are considered low to moderate
  • Will be required to be on site with customers or contractors, with or without Paladin colleagues to manage the expectations and deliverables. Sites range from general office environments to new construction.
  • Driving to customer sites is required
  • Limited overnight travel may be required

  • Working Hours: This position generally works Monday- Friday, overtime and on call when necessary
