SALARY: $28.79 – $34.56 Hourly / $59,883.20 – $71,884.80 Annually depending on qualifications

The Role
As an Accounting Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting the City’s financial operations through accounting, financial processing, record-keeping, reconciliation, reporting, and customer service.
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience working with financial records, accounting processes, spreadsheets, and office systems, along with strong attention to detail and the ability to provide professional and knowledgeable customer service. You will maintain, monitor, and reconcile complex financial records; process invoices, requisitions, purchase orders, deposits, payments, and other financial documents; complete banking transactions; perform daily audit functions; and support financial reporting and database management.
This position regularly interacts with City staff and members of the public and requires the ability to communicate clearly, maintain confidentiality, solve problems, and explain policies, procedures, and financial information with tact and professionalism.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.
- Two (2) years of higher education in related field.
- Three (3) years of directly related work and/or office experience.
- One (1) year experience functioning as a lead or trainer.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with accounting, bookkeeping, financial processing, or governmental accounting.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, computerized accounting programs, or specialized financial software.
- Experience maintaining and reconciling financial records using automated systems and spreadsheets.
- Experience processing invoices, requisitions, purchase orders, payments, deposits, or other financial transactions.
- Strong customer service, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle complex or sensitive information with professionalism.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Safety / Work Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment while stationed at a desk using a computer.
- This position may include standing at the front counter, bending to file, and lifting files weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Duties may involve prolonged periods of sitting and standing while performing repetitive motions.
- This position may require providing service to and communicating with individuals who may be upset, angry, or frustrated.
