The Director, Sports Partnerships will provide leadership to the Sports Partnerships team to include creation, implementation and expansion of the Sports strategy for ALSAC’s Sports Partnerships fundraising and awareness efforts. This role will partner with senior leadership, external partners, vendors and internal teams to create mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with professional sports leagues, teams, players, foundations, agencies, agents, and stakeholders.

This role will lead, develop, and advance the vision, structure, goals, and strategies to raise funds, engage key constituents and cultivate/retain donors within the sports industry for ALSAC/St. Jude.

In addition, the Director will mentor, guide, motivate, inspire, and direct the work of team members.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides leadership and professional development to the team to ensure fundraising, marketing, strategic agility, and creative skills provide the vision and direction of sports initiatives and campaigns. This is accomplished through written correspondence, telephone conversations and personal visits. Works closely across the organization to ensure strategies are effectively implemented and maximized.
  • Works to develop strategic plans to help enhance current initiatives and campaigns, including partnerships with the NFL, NBA, LPGA, PGA, MLB, NCAA, NASCAR, and motorsports and creates an assignment and moves management's strategy for targeting individuals, agencies and influencers associated with those respective leagues for cultivation and support. Utilizes these relationships - and builds new relationships - to expand national sports programs in the marketplace.
  • Partners with internal leaders and teams to ensure national sports campaigns have an integrated approach on all levels of planning and implementation across ALSAC.
  • Responsible for the oversight and management of critical enterprise events such as CME Group LPGA Tour Championship and the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
  • Responsible for drafting, preparing, sending and giving presentations, marketing communications plans, conference reports, and other documents. Ensures project tasks meet deadlines, and forecasts resource needs based on job growth or trends.
  • Researches and identifies opportunities on enhancing marketing communications strategies and provides innovative solutions and strategies while actively seeking solutions to address process challenges.
  • Works with various ALSAC departments and divisions to identify key sports celebrity/influencer opportunities and appearances for campaigns and events. Allocates appropriate resources and secures spokespersons and celebrity appearances while also ensuring organizational reputation and relationship management.
  • Actively solicits and arranges tours for VIP executives, athletes, teams, and influencers who want to visit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
  • Creates a long-term strategy for sports foundation cultivation which may include, but is not limited to, foundations formed by leagues, teams, athletes, and other organizations within the industry.
  • Develops, mentors, and coaches a team of professionals that can provide guidance to employees regarding strategy, administration, procedures/policies, analysis, and communication.
  • Works in conjunction with Sports Partnerships team (with strategic input from various ALSAC departments including Communications, Legal, Event Team, Patient Team, Public Relations, and Experiential/Territories) to plan and implement the strategic direction and implementation of sports campaigns and initiatives, including annual fiscal goals and budgets. Drafts both annual and long-term plans for respective sports programs, which establish fundraising and awareness metrics and goals.
  • Assists personnel in the handling of individual questions concerning various aspects of the Sports programs.
  • A bachelor’s degree; A minimum of eight years of experience in sales, fundraising or marketing with experience leading large teams;
  • Demonstrated experience working with sports and/or athletic organizations or companies and the ability to build relationships across sports platforms;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Speak and write in a clear and understandable manner for internal/external relations.
  • Understand extremely complex verbal or written instructions.
  • Understand data processing applications.
  • Extensive travel required.
