PRESCHOOL TEACHING ASSISTANT

Position Title: Preschool Teaching Assistant

Position: 10 months

Reports To: Assigned Preschool Teacher

SUMMARY STATEMENT

The preschool teaching assistant supports classroom activities by assisting with lesson preparation, student supervision, and record-keeping, while also providing individualized instruction and support to students. The TA will foster a positive learning environment that enhances student success, in addition to modeling Christian principles in all situations.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES

Spiritual - The teaching assistant shall:

  • seek to be a role model in attitude, speech and actions with a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ.
  • show by example the importance of Scripture study, prayer, witnessing, and unity in Christian fellowship.
  • follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, staff, and administration.
  • motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and grow in their faith.
  • lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.

Essential Functions- The teaching assistant shall:

  • Model Christian principles of living.
  • Seek to promote positive self-esteem in each student.
  • Use a variety of positive reinforcements in the classroom.
  • Arrive punctually and with consistent attendance.
  • Arrive promptly for morning duties as assigned by the administration.
  • Become informed and know the curriculum.
  • Continually seek additional knowledge in early childhood education and development.
  • Assist the teacher in introducing the students to the classroom activities as they arrive at school each day.
  • Anticipate and set out materials needed for centers, math and literacy rotations.
  • Assist in decorating the classroom and doors.
  • Perform daily backpack checks.
  • Send copies to the print shop and have them ready at least one day in advance.
  • Clean tables and floors to maintain a safe environment for students.
  • Stuff and clean out folders daily.
  • Assist the teacher in playground activities and supervision.
  • Work with small groups of students during rotations as the lead teacher sees necessary.
  • Take students to the restroom, change diapers, and assist in washing students’ hands.
  • Be in the classroom at all times unless the lead teacher directs otherwise.
  • Be present during whole group lessons to help monitor student behavior.
  • Help with any classroom emergencies such as an injured or sick child.
  • Share ideas and be open to suggestions from the teacher.
  • Interact with parents to build relationships.
  • Take and post pictures/videos to Class Dojo.
  • Willingly step in to substitute in the lead teacher’s absence
  • Willingly step in to substitute in another preschool classroom. if needed
  • Report any suspicions of child abuse, neglect, or maltreatment to the appropriate authorities, as required by North Carolina law.
  • Willingly assume the responsibilities assigned by the teacher and principal.

All expectations outlined in the Faculty & Staff Handbook and any supplemental handbooks must be adhered to per the handbook(s).

POSITION REQUIREMENTS OR STANDARDS

  • Professes Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
  • Faithfully attends and financially supports a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of Calvary Day School
  • Affirm the ACSI Statement of Faith and abide by the Code of Professional Conduct, CDS Lifestyle Statement and Christian Community Covenant
  • Be a person of spiritual maturity with academic and leadership abilities that allow him/her to “train up a child in the way he should go”
  • Reflect the purpose of the school which is to honor Christ in every aspect of the job
  • Able to relate Christian lifestyle and experience to daily life and work.
  • Familiarity with the needs of Lower School and Early Education students
