Overview
A leading organization in the mission-critical construction sector is seeking an experienced Energy Marshal to support the safe execution of energization, isolation, and commissioning activities on complex infrastructure projects. This individual will serve as the site subject matter expert for energy isolation practices, ensuring compliance with safety standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and commissioning requirements throughout the construction lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong safety background, technical expertise in electrical systems and energy isolation, and experience supporting commissioning efforts within mission-critical or industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary authority for energy isolation and energization safety on site.
- Manage electrical room access permits and monitor electrical room activities.
- Ensure compliance with safe work practices during energization and isolation activities.
- Review commissioning plans and verify readiness for system energization.
- Conduct pre-energization inspections and safety assessments.
- Administer and maintain the site Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program.
- Review, audit, and validate energy isolation procedures to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Provide technical guidance and support regarding energy isolation practices to project teams and trade partners.
- Participate in daily and weekly High-Risk Activity (HRA) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) meetings.
- Assist teams in developing procedures associated with energy isolation and commissioning activities.
- Perform audits of field practices and procedures to ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
- Interpret electrical single-line diagrams, system redundancies, and switching procedures to support safe operations.
- Ensure LOTO systems are properly designed, implemented, and maintained.
- Provide expertise on managing multiple energy sources, including electrical, mechanical, and stored energy systems.
- Identify unsafe conditions or practices and exercise stop-work authority when necessary.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to commissioning, safety, and operational excellence.
- Participate in weekly safety meetings and project coordination sessions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in energy isolation, commissioning, electrical safety, construction safety, or a related field.
- NFPA 70E certification required.
- Experience supporting commissioning activities within mission-critical, industrial, manufacturing, utility, or large-scale commercial construction environments.
- Working knowledge of data center commissioning practices and mission-critical infrastructure preferred.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, including both AC and DC power distribution.
- Ability to safely support installation and energization of equipment across multiple voltage levels.
- Experience implementing and managing Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programs.
- Proficiency reviewing technical drawings, single-line diagrams, and switching procedures.
- Strong auditing, documentation, and compliance management skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across construction, commissioning, engineering, and safety teams.

- Mission-critical construction experience.

- Experience working in environments with complex power distribution systems and multiple energy sources.
