Project Manager - Self-Perform Commercial Interiors

AlphaHire

We are hiring an experienced Construction Project Manager to lead self-performed commercial interior projects from preconstruction through final turnover.

We are specifically looking for a production-focused builder with direct experience managing internal field crews. The right candidate understands how to plan manpower, establish labor budgets, monitor installation rates, and protect project margins across drywall, metal stud framing, painting, exterior finishes, and related specialty scopes.

This is not a traditional general contractor Project Manager role focused primarily on coordinating subcontractors. You will be directly responsible for field production, project financials, scheduling, labor performance, client communication, and successful project delivery.

This opportunity is especially well suited for a former Foreman or Superintendent who has progressed into Project Management and understands how the work is installed in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of multiple self-perform projects, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, execution, and closeout
  • Develop manpower plans, labor budgets, production goals, and project schedules based on actual installation requirements
  • Lead Superintendents, Foremen, internal crews, vendors, and project partners while monitoring labor hours, productivity, quality, and cost performance
  • Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and scopes to identify constructability, staffing, scheduling, and financial risks
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, material deliveries, client meetings, and project documentation
  • Visit jobsites regularly to maintain control of safety, production, schedule, quality, punch lists, and final turnover

Requirements

  • 5+ years of construction Project Management experience with a self-performing contractor or specialty subcontractor
  • Direct experience managing company-employed field crews required
  • Background in drywall, metal stud framing, commercial interiors, painting, exterior finishes, or a related specialty trade
  • Strong understanding of manpower planning, labor productivity, production rates, sequencing, and field operations
  • Experience developing and managing labor budgets, project schedules, change orders, and cost forecasts
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and scopes of work
  • Proven ability to independently manage multiple active projects
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to take direct accountability for project execution and profitability

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary based on experience
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Health benefits
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Long-term advancement opportunities within a growing construction organization

This position is ideal for a hands-on Project Manager who understands field production, knows how to lead internal crews, and wants direct ownership of project execution and profitability.
