HR Director - Western Timberlands

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on HR Director to support our Western Timberlands organization, partnering with a diverse portfolio of businesses and leaders to lead this key segment of Weyerhaeuser’s operations in the northwest. This role is ideal for a seasoned HR leader who thrives on building strong business partnerships, influencing organizational strategy, and delivering impactful HR solutions.
Based out of the Western Timberlands Regional office in Vancouver, WA (or one of the key operating hubs within WTL), this role reports to the Vice President of HR Operations and provides leadership across the various Western Timberlands business units in Oregon and Washington. The position supports a broad mix of employee populations—including production and non-production teams, union and non-union environments, and business leaders and field-based employees—over 700 employees (~450 hourly production and ~350 professional staff) from Coos Bay to Olympia.
You will lead and develop a team of HR Business Partners while serving as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to business leaders, helping drive organizational effectiveness, workforce capability, and business performance.
Key Business Partnerships
This role supports a diverse and complex set of customer groups, including:
- WTL Leadership Team (V.P., Directors & Region Managers)
- Regeneration (orchards & nurseries) and Reforestation (planting & treatments)
- Aviation (aerial treatments & fire suppression)
- Woods Operations (company & contract logging, including road building/maintenance)
- Transportation (company & contract log trucks, logistics & maintenance)
- Marketing (log/export yards, value optimization, procurement & sales)
- Resource and Planning (inventory management, long-term harvest planning)
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership
- Partner with key business leaders to align HR strategies with organizational goals and drive business performance
- Provide strategic counsel on organizational design, workforce planning, and talent strategies
- Lead organizational change and development initiatives across a multi-site, geographically dispersed organization
- Utilize data and analytics to assess organizational health and inform decision-making
Talent & Organizational Effectiveness
- Lead talent management and leadership development efforts
- Drive succession planning and workforce capability strategies
- Oversee recruiting, selection, and retention initiatives
- Support performance management processes and build leader capability
Employee & Labor Relations
- Provide comprehensive guidance on employee and labor relations in both union and non-union environments
- Maintain effective relationships with labor partners and ensure compliance with CBAs and employment laws
- Coach leaders and employees to build strong working relationships and a high-performance culture
Compensation & HR Programs
- Lead and support salary planning, annual incentive programs, and equity plans
- Guide leaders through HR programs including inclusion, engagement, and change management
- Ensure consistent execution of HR policies and processes across the organization
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, coach, and develop the HR team to build capability and drive results
- Serve as a trusted HR subject matter expert for business leaders
- Collaborate with our enterprise HR partners (Benefits, Payroll, Compensation, Labor Relations, and Talent Acquisition) to deliver integrated solutions
- Maintain proactive communication with key stakeholders and partners

Experience
- 12+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally within timberlands, manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environments
- Experience supporting multi-site, multi-state operations
- Strong experience with hourly workforces and labor unions preferred
- Proven ability to lead organizational change and influence business leaders
- Proven ability to lead a team of HR professionals
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required

What We Offer
Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $159,926-$240,031based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 25% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target. This position is also eligible for participating in our Long Term Incentive Plan.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours and paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
