Position Description
The Field Personnel Manager contributes to the overall success of CR Meyer and its heavy industrial customers through ensuring CR Meyer maintains an industry-leading workforce of skilled union Ironworkers. Works with CR Meyer leadership, Project Management staff and union partners to ensure adequate project staffing levels and maintain positive, mutually beneficial relationships.
- Responsible for adequately staffing all projects throughout CR Meyer with Ironworkers.
- Maintains a network of Ironworkers across all geographical locations.
- Works with union partners to fulfill Labor Requests in conjunction with each Ironworker's Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- Stays up-to-date on current and future construction projects through participating in relevant meetings.
- Works cooperatively with all CR Meyer leadership and project management staff to ensure efficient use of Ironworker resources across all locations/projects.
- Responsible for the HR Life Cycle for designated Ironworkers and Ironworker leadership.
Attraction
- Represents CR Meyer in a professional manner at career fairs, trade camps, recruiting meetings, etc.
- Participates in industry and labor committees to foster relationships and continually promote CR Meyer.
- Provides Marketing with opportunities to promote the trades – i.e. signing days, accomplishments, etc.
Recruitment
- Fosters strong relationships with union partners to ensure a pipeline of qualified Ironworkers needed to meet project demands.
- Promotes CR Meyer as a great place to work within personal network and actively recruits new candidates.
- Works with Human Resources to post available positions, review applications, schedule interviews and make offers, as appropriate, for key field positions.
- Follows all CR Meyer policies for interviewing and hiring employees.
Onboarding
- Communicates job assignments using the CR Meyer dispatching system to Ironworkers and leadership.
- Works cooperatively with the Field Personnel Assistants to ensure new hires have the information they need to complete the boarding process.
- Works cooperatively with Payroll to ensure they have the information they need to activate the employee in the payroll system, i.e. referrals, union affiliation, rates, etc.
- Ensures proper contract is utilized depending on scope of work, location in the country requested.
- Ensures all CR Meyer practices are followed in relation to employment paperwork, drug testing requirements, training requirements, union communication, company property assignments, security access, etc.
- Acts as a resource to field personnel with questions about their employment with CR Meyer, job assignments, policies/procedures, etc.
Development
- Reviews training credentials for assigned workforce and ensures that job requirements are kept up-to-date, i.e. site specific training, first aid, drug testing, CR Meyer required training, etc. Works with Ironworkers, their unions and HR to address training needs.
- Conducts annual performance reviews with Ironworker Foreman and Superintendents in assigned trade area. Reviews position description, training status and career paths as part of process.
- Continually promotes the CR Meyer key person program, identifying high performers for succession opportunities. Establishes a pipeline of Key Apprentices, Key Journeyman, Key Foreman and Key Persons to ensure continuity of personnel.
- Works cooperatively with the Human Resources Director on documenting coaching opportunities.
- Communicates safety related incidents and other coaching incidents to our labor partners.
Retention
- Monitors progress of Ironworkers and leadership, and makes recommendations for advancement, as appropriate.
- Conducts routine check-ins to maintain goodwill with Ironworkers and leadership. Acts as a resource for questions and concerns and advocates on behalf of leadership, as needed.
- Leads by personal example and is a strong advocate for the CR Meyer Mission-Vision-Values and Code of Conduct. Works with leadership on holding people accountable to CR Meyer values and standards.
- Continually promotes and upholds accountability for safety to individuals both within and outside our organization.
Offboarding
- Identifies Ironworkers who are nearing retirement and coordinates transition periods to ensure knowledge transfer.
- Ensures CR Meyer receives the information needed to acknowledge and celebrate retirements.
- Works cooperatively with Human Resources Director on separation situations, including but not limited to retirements, for cause terminations, respectful workplace situations, grievances, etc.
- Ensures that the coaching and termination processes are followed for all employment actions.
Other Tasks
- Wears all assigned PPE and observes CR Meyer safety guidelines at all times.
- Due to business demands, regular and reliable attendance is required.
- Completes all related paperwork in a timely manner.
- Represents the CR Meyer brand in a positive, professional manner at all times.
- All other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Five to seven years of Ironworker trade experience required, preferably in a labor relations role within construction or a similar setting.
- Maintains their status in their union.
- Ability to learn and utilize CR Meyer’s computer systems.
- Ability to complete all CR Meyer training and perform job duties within safety guidelines required.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and comply with CR Meyer’s Drug & Alcohol Policy and Program.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, insurable driving history and ability to operate a motor vehicle following all traffic laws and safe, courteous driving habits.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States, without employer sponsorship.
- Ability to travel to various project sites within the United States required.
