The Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) is seeking a diverse pool of qualified candidates for the position of Security Screener within the Administrative Division. The LCB is a nonpartisan, legislative service agency that provides professional, technical and administrative support to the Nevada legislature, which convenes biennially in odd-numbered years for 120-day sessions and for rare special sessions during the interim periods. The Legislative Police serves and protects all legislative employees, visitors and the buildings and property of the LCB. This is a full-time position located in Carson City, Nevada.
Position Description: Under the general supervision of the Chief of Legislative Police, or a designee of the Chief, the Security Screener will perform a variety of security functions and screening protocols to ensure the safety of employees, visitors and property. Responsibilities of the Security Screener may include, without limitation:
• Detecting and responding to situations requiring police assistance or intervention and notifying the appropriate parties;
• Operating screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous or prohibited items in bags, containers or on individuals, whether openly carried or concealed, to prevent entry into the LCB building(s);
• Performing security screening protocols in a professional and respectful manner while upholding high standards of confidentiality, honesty and reliability;
- Notifying the proper chain-of-command when a more in-depth search of a person, bag or other item is required;
- Writing clear, concise and well-structured incident reports;
• Interacting with the public by providing directions, answering questions and assisting with information on hearings and public meetings;
• Providing transportation for legislators and visitors to and from the legislative building and surrounding parking areas, as needed;
• Collaborating with Legislative Police, fellow screener staff and other law enforcement partners to ensure effective communication and coordinated operations; and
• Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: The Security Screener will be selected with a special preference given to the candidate’s training, experience and aptitude in the field of security screening and security-related services. A qualified candidate must have: (1) a valid driver’s license; (2) a high school diploma/GED; and (3) at least 1 year of experience providing professional-level customer service. Prior military or law enforcement experience is preferred.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and address risks in a fast-paced environment;
• Sound judgment and decision-making skills in both routine and crisis situations;
• A strong commitment to integrity, honesty and reliability;
• The ability to lift and move medium to large items weighing up to 50 pounds, employing proper safety techniques; and
• The physical capability to perform tasks such as walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, crouching, gripping, holding, pushing, pulling, bending and reaching overhead.
Salary: The annual salary for this position is based upon a Grade 32, which has a salary range of $56,689 to $83,666 under the employee/employer paid retirement option. An employer paid contribution plan is also available with a reduced salary in lieu of an employee contribution. Actual starting salary will be based on experience.

Working Conditions: The work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions, and the position requires availability for varied shifts. Overtime may be required during legislative sessions and certain other periods as necessary to meet the demands of the Nevada Legislature. When overtime is worked, the Security Screener may earn compensatory time that can be taken at a later date or be paid for the overtime, consistent with the LCB Rules and Policies and subject to budgetary limits. Occasional in-state and out-of-state travel may be required. Such travel may be outside normal business hours.
