Communications Intern
The Office of Sustainability’s mission is to educate staff, faculty, students, alumni and the community at large about the benefits of adopting sustainable practices and behaviors. Candidates are typically graduate or undergraduate students from the School of Communication.
Hours: 14 hours per week
Hourly Rate: $20/hour
Start Date: July 2026
As Communications Intern for the Office of Sustainability, the main responsibilities include the following:
- Manage and maintain Office of Sustainability Instagram & LinkedIn alongside Sustainability Coordinator to increase overall engagement.
- Develop flyers and social media posts to promote and recap events.
- Film, edit, and carry out subsequent interviews for a monthly video (under 3 minutes) for News@theU to boost and enhance programs offered by the Office of Sustainability.
- Interview, film, and edit a monthly video (Instagram reel format; under 1 minute) to highlight students, staff, or faculty that are sustainability role models on campus.
- Document GreenU events on campus (Earth Day, World Water Day, Arbor Day, etc.)
- Review and make recommendations for Office of Sustainability website and monthly newsletters.
- Design innovative strategies to achieve awareness and behavioral change for sustainability initiatives.
Current UM Graduate or Undergraduate student in Motion Pictures, Broadcast Journalism, Electronic Media, Interactive Media, Immersive Media, Media Management, or related Communications major.
Knowledge, Skills:
- Passion for sustainability and knowledge of common environmental principles.
- Understanding of current social media trends and hook structures.
- Proficiency in audio recording.
- Utilize Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite and Adobe Premiere, and Canva.
- Good organizational skills, detail oriented, multi-tasker, flexible schedule, dependable.
- Good communication skills both oral and written.
- Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
