New England Orthopedic Surgeons (NEOS), a leading orthopedic practice in Western Massachusetts and a division of Northeast Orthopaedic Alliance (NOA), is seeking an experienced and driven Workers' Compensation Manager to lead and grow our Workers' Compensation Program.
This leadership role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the workers' compensation program, managing day-to-day operations, supervising staff, and serving as the primary liaison between injured workers, employers, insurance carriers, attorneys, nurse case managers, and healthcare providers. Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Management
- Oversee all aspects of the workers' compensation program from initial injury through claim resolution.
- Ensure timely scheduling, authorizations, and coordination of care for injured workers.
- Monitor claim activity and proactively address barriers to treatment, communication, and return-to-work efforts.
- Ensure compliance with workers' compensation regulations, payer requirements, and organizational policies.
- Track and analyze key performance metrics related to program performance, patient access, and service outcomes.
- Collaborate with physicians, providers, and clinic leadership to improve workflows and enhance operational efficiency.
Leadership & Team Development
- Directly supervise workers' compensation coordinators and support staff.
- Recruit, onboard, train, mentor, and evaluate team members.
- Establish performance expectations and monitor productivity, quality, and customer service standards.
- Conduct regular team meetings and provide ongoing coaching and professional development.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices that support program success.
Employer Relations & Business Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, municipalities, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, nurse case managers, and referral sources.
- Serve as an ambassador for the Workers' Compensation Program through regular outreach and engagement activities.
- Conduct employer visits, educational presentations, and networking events to strengthen partnerships and increase awareness of services.
- Identify opportunities to grow referral volume and expand market presence.
- Partner with leadership on strategic initiatives focused on employer satisfaction and program growth.
Operational Oversight
- Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated workers' compensation concerns.
- Facilitate communication between providers, employers, carriers, attorneys, and case managers regarding treatment plans and work status recommendations.
- Ensure timely completion of work status reports, disability paperwork, and workers' compensation documentation.
- Assist with payer relations, contract discussions, and process improvement initiatives.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in workers' compensation, healthcare operations, occupational medicine, claims management, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of workers' compensation processes, regulations, payer requirements, and employer relations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and reporting tools (Athena EMR, a plus).
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Previous supervisory or management experience.
- Experience working within a physician practice, orthopedic, occupational medicine, or healthcare setting.
