JOB/POSITION TITLE: Library Assistant

OFFICE/CAMPUS: Library/Stan Sagert HS & Dan Kong MS Campuse

REPORTS TO: Principal and Library/Media Specialist

STATUS: 10 Months (Non-Exempt, hourly)

HOURLY PAY RANGE: $19 - $21

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Learning Center is an integral part of HBA’s learning environment that strives to support the school’s mission. The Library Assistant’s primary role is to support the Library/Media Specialist in the provision of access to relevant resources for faculty, staff and students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS

Service Desk

  • Attend to service desk together with librarian and independently
  • Assist teachers and students with reference needs (e.g., locating resources, using online catalog and databases, research projects, etc.) and provide reader advisory (book recommendations)
  • Assist students with daily needs (photocopying, printing, change, some tech assistance)
  • Circulate resources
  • Maintain digital records of books borrowed
  • Update student, faculty and staff database
  • Monitor behavior of students
  • Assist in monitoring Guided Study classes (including maintaining attendance, study logs and behavior)
  • Proctor student test taking before, during and after school hours

Collection Management

  • Shelve and maintain order/cleanliness of resources
  • Process resources for circulation and maintain and update records in online library catalog
  • Shelve resources, check shelving regularly
  • Repair worn books and media
  • Inventory collection as needed
  • Order library supplies
  • Maintain Middle School (MS) reading room and collections in the MS English classrooms weekly (reshelve books, maintain order, etc.)

Facility Management

  • Assist with maintaining a clean and organized Learning Center facility
  • Provide adequate signage
  • Communicate with Physical Plant regarding Learning Center cleaning, furniture repair, etc.

OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS

  • Key operator for teachers’ workroom copy machine
  • Manage the operation of lamination and Scantron machines, including troubleshooting, ordering supplies, and coordinating machine maintenance
  • Assist faculty with laminating needs
  • Troubleshoot problems for library printer, teachers’ workroom copier, and shredder
  • Maintain and order faculty workroom supplies, and keep track of instructional supplies budget
  • Prepare receipts, correspondence, memos
  • Provide faculty and administrative support
  • Perform other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Equipment Use: Computer, copier, laminator, Scantron, A.V. equipment
  • Work Hours: 7:30am – 4:00pm, Monday - Friday (library hours are 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.).
  • Mental Demands: Basic mathematical ability, attention to detail, concentration, flexibility
  • Physical Demands: Occasional lifting and carrying loads up to 25 lbs. Sitting for extended periods of time. Handling of books. Corrected vision. Air conditioning, exposure to dust and mold.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Spiritual: Must have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their life and; demonstrate a living relationship with Jesus Christ as described in “The Baptist Faith and Message,” the tenets of the Southern Baptist denomination.
  • Skills/Knowledge: Ability to alphabetize. Basic knowledge of computer operations. Command of the English language.
  • Education/Training: High School diploma or equivalent. Training in library procedures preferred.
  • Experience: Some experience in library work.
