Alaska Automation Capability – Automation Architect - SME

Location: Anchorage, AK

The Automation Architect - SME –will be an instrumental participant in delivering automation and communications capability across the FAA’s 17 Alaska Flight Service Stations (FSS). This initiative will modernize Alaska’s flight service infrastructure by replacing legacy systems with a modular suite of modern voice switching, call distribution, and advanced flight service automation and console technologies. The project emphasizes resilient telecommunications and the integration of legacy and VoIP radio systems to support Alaska’s unique and challenging operating environment.

Work Location

This position is 100% on-site, located in Anchorage, Alaska.

The ability to travel to remote locations.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts research in design, development, testing and utilization of these modernized technologies.
  • Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of flight service infrastructure components.
  • Assists in the determination of user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls
  • Ensures software standards are met.
  • Confers with systems analysts, engineers, programmers, and others to design system and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces.
  • Participates in technical reviews with PMO and vendors.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to field teams.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 16 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 14 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 10 years with Ph.D.; Minimum of 20 years in lieu of a degree
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust Clearance
  • Strong experience in requirements definition, system decomposition, system modeling (e.g., Model-Based Systems Engineering - MBSE), and trade-off studies.
  • Proven technical leadership ability, including providing direction, facilitating working groups, and mentoring junior engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting FAA programs or National Airspace System (NAS) infrastructure projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Aviation Systems.

Target Salary Range: $135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
